I took my daughter to see Dr. Kaplan several years ago to get his input on her kidney condition, because I was less than satisfied with the treatment she was getting from her primary nephrologist in Houston, where we live. He made a point of spending plenty of time to fully understand her medical history. He was very kind, and even joked with my daughter repeatedly to make her comfortable. The doctor in Houston seemed to assume that my daughter would eventually need a kidney transplant, so she was essentially just monitoring her until that happened. Dr. Kaplan made several suggestions about ways we could change her diet, etc., so we could take more proactive steps to actually maintain the health of her kidneys, rather than just watch them slowly fail. She is now 17, and her outlook is much better. Her new nephrologist in Houston now says that it appears to him that her kidneys will probably remain stable for the rest of her life. I think Dr. Kaplan's suggestions played a significant role in maintaining, and improving, the health of her kidneys so that she won't reach end-stage renal disease. We greatly appreciate his help!!
