About Dr. Benjamin Eric Stein
Reviews for Dr. Benjamin Eric Stein
This was my 2nd foot surgery with Dr Stein. He is far and above one of the best surgeons I have ever dealt with. He quickly diagnosed the problems on each foot, one of which was misdiagnosed and the other with previous surgery performed badly. He explained the options for surgical or non-surgical treatment and expected outcome for these options. He also went into a lot of detail about post-op recovery and rehab, something I have not experienced from other surgeons. The office staff, schedulers, and assistants are first-rate. This surgery was done at the new Capital Orthopedic Surgical Center in Germantown. Nursing, Anesthesia, assistants, and strict Covid precautions made for an excellent experience.
I was in need a "great" foot & ankle specialist following a botched procedure by another physician. Dr. Stein was recommended to me by another Orthopedic Surgeon who did not specialize in the foot & ankle. From my 1st appointment with Dr. Stein this May 2020 I knew right away he was the right choice. He listened, he examined, and he truly expressed his desire to help me. My Achilles Tendon needed to be fully reconstructed. Dr. Stein assured me he would do everything he could to repair the damage and get me back walking normally and without pain. The procedure turned out to be more complicated than either he or I thought. However, Dr. Stein is a "rock star" when it comes it the foot & ankle! His entire surgical & office team is wonderful. My surgery was in August 2020, and while the recovery period has been very long I am now up & walking normally, wearing regular shoes, and almost pain-free. All thanks to Dr. Benjamin Stein. I cannot say enough good things about this man.
Dr. Stein is direct and easy to understand. Outcomes are explained in detail. Super responsive by phone and email. Great office staff. (Surgery of left ankle) highly recommended
Dr. Stein was able to see me quickly and he and his staff were able to do the complete exam and followup on the spot. I had my hand x-rayed, examined and put in a splint in about two hours. He explained my exact break clearly and provided instructions for care at home. I'm grateful for his prompt and competent care.
I am very grateful for the excellent job Dr. Stein did on my ankle. His physical therapy staff really helped speed up my recovery. I am really happy his office is open and functioning safely during this pandemic.
Dr. Stein is a phenomenal doctor. He has a fantastic bedside manner, is super knowledgeable and truly cares about his patients. He did a wonderful job on my Achilles tendon repair and has kept a close eye on me throughout my recovery. He makes himself accessible by phone or email which was so comforting when I went through a difficult spell with my scar. I cannot recommend him highly enough. You will be in very caring hands.
I was very comfortable and satisfied with the results of Dr. Stein performing my Achilles Tendon debridement, elongation and repair. I visited him initially for a second opinion but his surgery plan was more aggressive than my original surgeon and his rational for his plan made a lot of sense. He packs a lot of information into relatively short appointments, but I felt like he was always willing to answer any questions I had. During my recovery, he and his PA were readily available to help when I had pain or other questions. His office can be difficult to book an appointment at first, especially over the phone. But once I was in the system and booking follow-ups in person, I never had another issue. I'd absolutely recommend Dr. Stein and would return to him for future procedures.
Dr. Stein was the first doctor, of several I’ve seen, to give me a glimmer of hope for my chronic condition. He was extremely friendly and charming. Definitely a 5 stars doctor!
Dr. Stein is an outstanding orthopedist. No complications & virtually no pain following left ankle surgery. He explains well and has a good sense of humor. This is important for grumpy patients dreading the arduous recovery period. Hard to believe I might have to replace the other ankle. But won't hesitate with Dr. Stein in charge.
I highly recommend Dr. Stein. My orthopedist referred me to Dr. Stein when it became clear that the surgery I required on my foot and ankle was too specialized. Dr. Stein. Dr. Stein was very energetic and explained everything to me. He answered all of my questions and graciously slowed down when I asked him to! His staff was great and returned my calls timely when I had questions after the fact. Dr. Stein gave me realistic expectations and still achieved the goal of getting me back to all of the physical activities in which I engage. I would definitely recommend Dr. Stein, and am grateful for the work he performed.
I highly recommend Dr. Stein. He takes a measured approach and is very good at answering all questions. His surgery on my left knee to repair a torn meniscus has been a complete success, and I wouldn’t think of going to anyone else for orthopedic problems.
I needed very extensive reconstructive surgery from decades of long-distance running, and Dr. Stein took the time to re-explain everything to to me and my partner when I requested it. (The first time he explained it I was so distraught I heard very little!) He was also very responsive with all of my follow-up issues and questions. I have already recommended him to other people in the DC area.
Dr. Stein is a kind, and very professional MD, all my doubts were explained and my injury perfectly well taken care
I cannot thank Dr. Stein enough for his amazing talents and getting me back on my feet (literally). I tore my achilles tendon in June and the next day Dr. Stein squeezed me into his schedule the day before his vacation and I had surgery two weeks later. The whole process from the surgery, recovery, follow ups, and physical therapy has been a pain-free and stress-free experience. I high recommend Dr. Stein and his amazing team for any of your medical needs.
Dr. Stein has been great to me and I highly recommend him. I injured my ankle when I fell down stairs at work. My PCP recommended him and his office got me on the schedule the next day. He answers all my questions and is straightforward & honest about what to expect, especially as I age with this injury. I wish I didn't have to have surgery, but I am so thankful that he was my surgeon and got me on the road to recovery. Sometimes there can be a wait during follow-up visits, but that is to be expected when you have a doctor that listens to you and addresses your concerns.
I highly recommend Dr. Stein. He takes the time to explain your condition, treatment and treatment options. He’s very approachable and responds to emails, texts and phone calls when I had challenges with pain management.
Dr. Stein was attentive and thoroughly answered all of my questions. The surgery was better than expected, and I am pain free and back to running thanks to Dr. Stein!
Dr. Stein fixed a serious break in my foot and allowed me to become mobile again when that was not a certain outcome. He is invested in his patients, and will give everyone a thorough understanding of what their issue is, how he can help, and why he can help.
Broke my ankle in 3 places while out the country. Came home and couldn’t get an appt with any of the orthopedic surgeons at GW. My pcp recommended Dr Stein. He was able to get me in within a few days. He performed 2 surgeries on my ankle, and before and after each appt in between, he was incredibly responsive to my emails or calls. The office is always full of people waiting so that can affect his timeliness but he is very professional, thorough, engaged and incredibly friendly when he is seeing/treating you. Prayerfully no more broken bones. But if ever, definitely going back to him. I’ve also recommended him to friends and he’s treated them very well.
I felt blessed from beginning of my accident (broken tibia & fibula @ ankle; mended w/ 3 plates, 12 screws) to today, & I will continue to live a full life thanks to Dr. Stein. I live elsewhere (A. A. Co.) from accident site, so again, blessed that accident happened in Dr. S's "territory" & he was on-call (Sibley)! Dr. S & staff took meticulous care of me throughout recovery. FOLLOW his Rx & don't put at risk his surgical work. Ask your questions, do as told, & fully rejoin your life's activities at the proper time.
I was an extreme case where my ankle was fractured in 4 places and pretty much destroyed. I required multiple surgeries and ultimately one that gave me my life back. Dr Stein did an amazing job. It’s been a long road but I’m no longer in pain. And I thank him for that.
The worst doctor experience ever. 9 am appointment, sat in a small windowless room for over an hour. Doctor never came. I finally left. Staff did not care, acted like it happens all the time. Waiting room comical- not designed for people with mobility issues. The weird thing was there were people just dropping by without an appointment to see a doctor. Got the impression they had tried calling but got no response. Would not want this place operating on me, real operation factory.
Before seeing me, he had ordered preparatory work by a practicing nurse and other paramedics, including X-rays and a phone conversation with ny physical therapist. Thus, by the time he actually saw me, he had been thoroughly briefed and could focus immediately on my needs. His diagnosis was accurate and the recommended actions were clearly indicated.
Clearly a smart guy, but kind of mean. He didn't give me more than 5 minutes, even though I was on time and had waited over 30 minutes to see him. He rushed through everything, said some pretty extreme things about treatment options without explaining himself, treated all my questions like they were a nuisance, and then rushed me out of there. He really doesn't inspire trust or confidence and I would never let him do surgery on me.
Dr. Stein has gotten back to my life. I'm an avid cyclist and was laid out with a torn meniscus. Had surgery 2 months ago and I feel like I'm almost back to 100%! Can speak highly enough of him.
Dr. Stein neglected my extreme lower back pain and disregarded my complaints regarding my high pain levels, and blocked a MRI which I desperately needed. As a result, I took matters into my own hands, and uncovered that I had a severe back herniation that could have been uncovered many months earlier should I have been allowed to get a MRI. I really did not appreciate his management of my care, nor disregarding my pain levels, as I could have detected and treated my problem sooner.
I'm an 80 year old gent who works out every day, but whose toes hurt from abuse during marathons and other Grand Canyon hiking impacts. From excellent staff X-rays, he gave me a fine, accurate assessment and a realistic view of what might help. He did NOT urge surgery, but wise treatment may ease the problem. He's one of the best doctors I've seen, among quite a lot, including my own relatives (grandfather, uncle, brother, nephew, son, daughter-in-law, ...).
Dr. Stein is the absolute best! I had a horrible ankle injury 3 years ago and had a surgery by another doctor and ended up in even worse pain. I was unable to get back to running and sports and had basically given up hope. I had a second surgery with Dr. Stein 6 months ago and am now back to doing everything and pain free at my ankle for the first time in years! I can't recommend he highly enough!!
Years ago, I was hit by a car. My tibia and fibula were not set properly. Over the years, the misalignment caused lots of damage to my foot. Dr. Stein was highly recommended by my primary care doctor. He examined me more than once. Took my x-rays to his colleagues for input. Decided on a plan which he explained carefully to me. The surgery was a success. He was very supportive during the process even calling me to check up several times! My foot is really great! I'm so happy I did this.
Dr. Stein is thorough, taking the time to walk through his assessment, next steps, and expected progress. I never left with any questions about the options that Dr. Stein considered and why he chose the path he did. He got me through an Achilles rupture and I don't know how it could've gone any better. I did a lot of research when looking for an orthopedist and everything I read about Dr. Stein's training was backed up in actual practice. I'd recommend Dr. Stein 100%.
Broke my leg hiking and came back home to see Dr. Stein. I'm glad I did. He explained the whole process to me and was very caring. Surgery went great and I am well on my way to getting back out there. Highly recommend!
Overall had an amazing experience with Dr.Stein and his staff. Dr. Stein is very through, precise, and offers best possible solutions. Highly recommend.
Excellent Doctor with a great personality. My ankle surgery was a success.
Dr. Stein is truly fantastic. I am so lucky to have found him. I came to him with an ankle injury. He took his time to explain to me what was wrong so that I understood. He has an unbelievable bedside manner. I ultimately needed surgery, and I cannot imagine anyone better to fix it. My outcome has been phenomenal. I truly appreciate his empathy and wonderful care. I would recommend him to be seen by any family member or friend of mine. Thanks Dr. Stein!
Took wonderful care and time with my teen son's flat foot reconstruction. He was initially very conservative which we greatly appreciated but when it came time for surgery he was terrific, empathic, available even late at night during recovery and best of all gave my son a beautiful arch in his foot. In all of our follow ups we have never felt rushed and he has made sure that every boot and brace was fitted just so. Only wonderful things to say about him!
I can finally get back to my life again after seeing Dr. Stein for my pain. He was very respectful and thorough, and after treating me my pain is gone. I highly recommend this doctor!!
I cannot be happier with the experience. Dr. Stein is truly a gifted surgeon. I underwent surgery to stabilize my ankle 5 months ago and am finally back to hiking and playing sports without the constant fear of injuring myself. I can't recommend him highly enough!!!
Waited over 4 hours for surgery. Also long wait times for office visits. Every office visit is rushed, I don't feel like there is enough time to ask questions.
