Love my doctor but they won't do anything about the rude staff. They should really work on how they talk to people considering we're there for mental issues

If I could give negative stars, I would. I had a terrible experience with Bal Gupta. I was admitted to St. Johns Hospital on 12mile and Hoover. He was the attending physician and immediately wanted me to admit myself into the psychiatric ward for 72 hours, and follow his outpatient psychiatric onsite curriculum. The information and trauma history I gave him should have prompted some boundaries and some investigation, like a phone call, with my current counselor. I have a trauma counselor that I regularly see, and gave him the office info to check and consult. He never did. I talked to my counselor while admitted to keep her informed of my situation. Gupta pushed his narrative on my situation, and refused to consider any of my trauma history or current treatment. Without any consult he put down my present counselor and argued with me about my current counseling treatment. He did not listen to me. He delayed releasing me. He is very arrogant, argumentative, impatient, condemning, insensitive, harsh, and rude. He could benefit from non-violent communication, look up Dr. Rosenburg on YouTube. People have choice, freedom, and responsibility. He will take away all of these rights. As an aside he is not in network for BCBS, and I wonder why? If I could give negative stars, I would. Terrible money hungry PSYCHIATRIST (what can be worse than a terrible mental health doctor) that will REFUSE an appointment no matter if an emergency or not unless your full balance is paid... Disgusting to say this office operates the way they do. The front office staff is just as worse and has the WORST attitudes 99.9% of the time and has no sense of urgency even in the most urgent life threatening times. It’s awful to think these people are still operating a mental health business. Multiple family members have been here and seen this doctor (not by choice) and has had the same experience and I am just in awe with how terrible Gupta/Nicole/ and the whole front office performs for its patients. They would rather argue and fight with a person in a crisis about money then actually treat them. Ascension needs to let this doctor and whole staff go to save what little reputation they have left. First I would like to start with doctor Dr Bal Gupta, Gupta is beyond arrogant and outdated, and never there I was in his partial day program 30+ days was only suppose to be 10 days which I only met with Gupta two times when I hot there and when I was discharged this sexist over talking people " Psychiatrist" uses Nicole Vichunas to fill in when he doesn't want to show up, though there are days when they both just don't show up at all, and Nicole is supposed to be his assistant but she does almost all the medication It's like he gives her total control and she is Very uneducated when it comes to medication, this lady forgets to refill prescription for her patients is ridiculous!!! And the fact that she will prescribe you medication that will conflict with another medications and brushes it off with " oh yeah sorry" statement is Disgustingly astounding She spends no more than 5 minutes with each Patient she runs through people like cattle, and is on site no more than 45 minutes tops is unprofessional, because of this she missed diagnosed me I do not recommend her at all Someone needs to get her for medical malpractice.

Terrible doctor. Do not waste your time. He is arrogant, unresponsive and uncaring. His knowledge is very outdated and he only cares about making money to the point where he seems to want to keep his patients sick and dependent! His office staff are also rude and unhelpful.

I haven’t actually met Dr. Gupta but his staff — particularly Nicole, his assistant, and Tim, the receptionist — have treated me wonderfully on all occasions. I am very happy with both of them, and the rest of the staff is very efficient and professional.

If I could've given NO STARS, I would've. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, OR YOUR MIND ON THIS DOCTOR, HIS ASSISTANT, OR HIS STAFF. All Dr. Gupta cares about is MONEY. They are the MOST NON CARING health professionals I've ever met. He has got to be a billionaire because he has a great racket. If u are admitted into St. John's mental health Ward, he'll be the Dr. Assigned to you. Then he forces you to go to a Partial Stay program that you have to go to everyday for 8 hours, until he decides to release you. Weeks, Months, Whatever. And guess who your doctor is there? That's right, Ole Money Grubbing Gupta. But get this, you rarely get to see him. He pawns you off on his Evil, Uppity, Assistant, Nicole. But whichever one you get to speak with about your care is only gonna spend up to 5 minutes with you. NEXT. Gotta keep that money coming. And when you go to his office! OMG! The staff (who you can tell are under pressure from higher up) are rude and pretend they have no answers. But you wait in the Waiting Room for 60 - 90 minutes AT LEAST, only to go in and speak with Nicole, the Assistant, not Dr. Gupta, for 5 yes I said 5 minutes, after that horrendous wait. SO NO. I’m sorry, but it really saddens me when I read the reviews that are posted. I’m 72 years old now but my first encounter with Dr. Gupta was in 2000.I had to have a total bipolar breakdown and was put into a mental ward at St. John’s. My first question is what did you expect when you got Dr. Gupta? Did you expect an interview at that time to see who you wanted? There’s always going to be someone who your assigned to no matter what facility go to! However, he was very attentive to me he kept all his appointments at the hospital and proceeded to take care of me for years until I move to Florida. I move back to Michigan three years ago and fully intend to see him again. So here’s to you Dr. Gupta I think you’re great! The staff is not friendly. My daughter just got dropped because she didn't know about an outstanding balance EVEN THOUGH she will be without her meds on a holiday weekend and they refused to give her the shot she had the appointment to get. This is after we had to pay full price at the pharmacy because the unfriendly staff would not call the insurance for pre-approval. The staff is not friendly. This doctor is very strange. At my first appointment, I walked into his office and said hello, but he couldn't be bothered to look up from what he was writing and greet me until he was finished. He asked about the meds I am currently taking, but never asked about my personal background. He asked what my last doctor's diagnosis was, but didn't ask about my symptoms or offer his own diagnosis. He just gave me the meds I wanted and sent me on my way. He is very apathetic and strikes me as lazy.

If I could rate it a zero I would. I would never recommend anyone to this doctor.

Dr. Gupta completely changed my sister's life around. He made her a normal person again. Thank-you Dr Gupta and Nicole. The staff is very nice and we have NEVER experienced a problem.

If there was a 0 star rating I would choose 0 but there is not. The doctor does not listen to the patients family and legal guardian. He and his staff at St John Macomb Psych administer meds w/o consent and they have adverse reactions on the patient. The staff refuses to listen to the family and ignores the patients medical history and meds that have caused the patient adverse side effects. After expressing concern to the social worker, Dr. Gupta, his PA, Nurses , etc they still do not listen.

I would not advise you to go tohim he is all about the money and not the care of his patients.
