I have had lower backpain for 4 years. I was very disappointed at my last visit with Dr Ulm. I expected EMG report on my back. They didnt test my back nerves, only my legs. The Dr asked me to show him where my pain was, then his phone rang and he excused himself. He came back and said I needed a back brace and left to have the nurse start insur. Procedure to get one. He never came back. I had some questions. I know they are busy but i sure feel gaslighted! No one will address the pain I have. One nurse said my pain didnt match her dermatone map, she is the one who decided I need an emg on my legs, not my back. Ive read many good reviews on Dr Ulm and maybe if he had stayed with me to complete my appointment I would have something great to say.

I saw Dr. Ulm for low back pain. After thoroughly examining me he recommended I try physical therapy before trying a surgical option. Physical therapy has helped my pain tremendously and I appreciate that he didn't rush me into the OR. He had excellent bedside manner and I would recommend he and his staff to anyone I know.

Cannot say better things about Dr Ulm and his staff. They always listened to everything I said even though I know I talked their heads off at every appointment. I trust them with my health and I am where I am today because they're the best. Thank you.

Oh my goodness…. Where to start!!! I wish I could leave zero stars... but not possible! My sister had back surgery by Dr. Ulm. After that we never saw him again even though he kept her coming back every three months for a year. The hospital, Skyline in Nashville, was horrific. I wouldn’t take my pet to that hospital. It was unfathomable how negligent they were. I contacted Dr. Ulm about the horrible treatment my sister received and he did nothing even though he sent us there! Dr. Ulm had my sister getting Cat scan X rays every three months which was extremely excessive and unnecessary knowing she had had breast cancer and she didn’t need that much radiation. After her surgery we never saw him even though we went back every few months. It was as if he was DONE with us after he did the surgery. His office failed to give us much needed information about her spine being pinched above and below the surgery place. It took a different specialist to tell us. Ulm said she’d be better in three months. A year later she’s STILL having horrific pain and walks worse now than before the surgery. I’m so disappointed in Ulm. I thought he’d have a better bed side manner and take better care of her. I had considered having him do my surgery. NOW…. AFTER SIS’S NIGHTMARE…. THERE IS NO WAY I’D TRUST HIM TO DO ANYTHING ON ME!!!! I have recently found out that a back Doctor in Louisville, Dr, Jeff Gum, comes highly recommended and I’m going to try to get in to see him. If you’re looking for a good bed side manner AFTER THE SURGERY I do NOT recommend Dr. Ulm. He never saw us after sis’s surgery even though HE KNEW she was having so much trouble. Dr Ulm saved my life. I suffered a fall at my home, experienced a traumatic brain injury and this wonderful doctor took such excellent care of me. Very friendly environment and clean establishment. All the employees there are extremely nice. Dr. Ulm is a very good surgeon.

He did the operation to drain fluid from my brain on 6/9. As far as I could tell he did an excellent job. I am following up with head CTs to check on healing but the surgery was fine. Thanks

He is a wonderful Doctor who cares for his patients, he has wonderful bedside manners and went out of his way to make me comfortable. His office staff and nurse staff are beyond helpful, it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend him for any procedure.

After suffering with a herniated disc for roughly a year I decided it was time for a surgery consult. I quickly discovered the illustrious offices of the Nashville Neurosurgery Associates due to their plethora of praises on the internet. The customer service and consideration displayed by every staff member was impressive to say the least. Along with Dr. Ulm, I also had the pleasure of meeting and being treated by Rachel, Darice and Mo. They were all knowledgeable, caring, and comforting. Annsley was amazing and went out of her way to ensure the whole process went as smoothly as possible. Dr. Ulm’s skill level is paralleled by his exquisite bed side manner. Dr. Ulm, the rest of the medical providers at Nashville Neurosurgery Associates, and the staff all do an exceptional job and go up and beyond on the services that they provide. I had a complicated right parietal occipital avm with many feeding arteries and draining veins. All neurosurgeons that I saw before doctor Ulm would not treat my avm due to its location, my prior bleeds and damage, and other reasons. I am very pleased with Dr. Ulm and everyone at his practice. I was told that I would never need another angiogram ever again. I received no judgement and was only asked if my providers at Dr. Ulm’s office need to know things about me when I asked bizarre questions. I highly recommend Dr. Ulm. I want to recommend Dr. Ulm to anyone that has reached the point of needing surgery. In November of 2019 I was diagnosed with severe carpal tunnel in BOTH hands. If I would have known how professional Dr. Ulm and his entire staff was sooner, I would have not wasted years of pain and sleepless nights waking with numb hands every night. Dr Ulm's office was wonderful. I was sent to him from a neurologist, he came in on my first appointment and told me they were scheduling my surgery for the next day. He had looked at all that was sent to him and knew I needed it done. They asked questions to better understand what I was going through and got me right into the hospital! Dr Ulm is the best neurosurgeon I’ve seen. He is friendly, knowledgeable and very skilled. He gave me injections in my back and performed surgery on my neck. I felt no pain with the injections and that was a totally different experience from others who have given me injections. After the initial pain of surgery, I no longer have the intense neck pain that I had been experiencing for a little over a year. The scar is minimal, and healing nicely. Dr. Ulm did an amazing job! I couldn’t have asked for a more thorough group of people to guide me through my back surgery. Having a full fusion done was the very last thing that I wanted because I have heard and seen family and friends get it done and they did not end with the amazing results that I did. His team was there with him the entire way and they made me feel confident that this surgery would get me back to feeling normal. I have hesitated in writing a review for Dr. Ulm and his team because I knew that words could not do them justice. I was bedridden for several months before seeing Dr. Ulm. Extremely fearful of any back surgery because I had heard so many horror stories, I entered his office with numerous anxieties. He walked through all of my options, patiently and in language I could understand. I felt completely empowered and educated . His team created an atmosphere of ease with their smiles and professionalism. I came out of surgery with no pain. ALL the debilitating pain that had restricted my life for months was completely gone. I did not even need pain medications after returning home. Even my scar seems to be minimal as possible. Dr. Ulm, also, sent me for other tests to ensure that I had good overall health. I was dealing with some major neck issues for almost a month and was recommended to see Dr. Ulm. I was able to be scheduled for a consultation quickly and met with his NP Rachel. She was very kind, compassionate and empathetic to my concerns and anxiety as this was a new issue for me. Rachel was also able to pinpoint the exact area of discomfort which was confirmed with a MRI. Very impressive!! Dr. Ulm suggested physical therapy, which made me very happy and never once rushed or made me feel like surgery was the only option. The office was wonderful with suggesting Physical Therapy that was convenient to my workplace. I completed my PT and I’m so happy to report that PT solved the issue! I haven’t had pain in a few months now! I ended up having trouble paying online and the office was so kind and accommodating and was able to help! I feel confident that if I were to have any issues in the future Dr. Ulm and his team will be my first call! I would highly suggest him and his team!

We moved here 3 years ago this October my husband had surgery from Dr Ulm, on his neck back and both hand in 2 years a total of 4 surgeries, my husband could hardly walk tie his shoes. Lay in his bed he has slept in a recliner for 5 years he now cares for himself and can sleep lying down. Dr Ulm, bed side manner is tops he also Needs to be CLONED. LOL HE'S THAT GOOD. Had to have a neurovascular for my Giant brain aneurysm. I live in Huntsville Alabama. We have many fine surgeons but not neurovascular. I must come to ours here to Nashville or 2 hours to Birmingham. I'm glad I'm in Nashville. We're still working on my brain aneurysm 6 years later. But I'm , alive

I'm writing on behalf of my wife. She had a dire life threatening condition if not treated. This group of professionals is amazing. They have been helping us along this journey for almost 2 yrs now. What they did for us we will forever be grateful. Very compassionate group. I highly recommend them

This doctor saved my life. I was totally incapacitated by a pain level of 10. After surgery, pain was a 1. Four weeks later, I feel better and better, He is a great surgeon. I saw Dr. Ulm and Darice for severe neck and arm pain. They explained my problem in terms I could understand and went out of their way to get me into another doctor for an injection. I like the fact that they offered non surgical treatments first.

On January 4 my son was in a horrible car accident he busted his L5 and had to have surgery. Dr Ulm came up and talked to use about the negatives and the positives that could happen to our son. Dr Ulm didn't know if are son would be able to walk after surgery or just take along time to Recover gladly to say that my son is walking just has a lot of nerve damage. I had a lower lumbar discectomy performed by Dr. Ulm this month (Feb. 2020). I have met with him and his staff (Darice Spackman, PA & Rachel Greene, NP) and was extremely pleased with our (my husband & I) interactions with them and the entire staff. Everyone is friendly and professional. They have an interactive touch screen which provides an amazing visual companion to their explanation of the procedure to be performed. They patiently listened and answered all questions and put our minds at ease about the procedure, assuring us I was an ideal candidate for the surgery. Surgery went great (>1hour) and we were in & out of the hospital in just a few hours. Recovery is going great as well, and post-op visit was quick & reassuring. I was having issues with neck pain and losing strength in my upper body. I had previously seen another surgeon about this problem and I was more satisfied with Dr. Ulm’s detailed explanation of what the issue was and what the procedure would entail to resolve my problem. I had the procedure done and am very happy with the results. I would highly recommend Dr. Ulm to anyone needing spinal surgery. It is so refreshing to find a Dr. that cares about his patients and will take the time to answer any concerns. His staff at the office were all professional and courteous. Dr. Ulm is the best surgeon and had it not been for him, I would not be here today. I had a stroke in December 2018 and was on death's doorstep when Dr. Ulm got to me. I would recommend him for anyone needing brain or back surgery. He is so professional and all of his staff is number one also. I have been a patient approximately for 8 years. He tried injection, but they didn't work. After years in pain, my last resort was back surgery. I am pain free and feel like a different person. I highly recommend Dr. Ulm, he will be the last neurosurgeon you will have to see. Friendly and to the point. He also has the best staff imaginable.

I saw Darice to evaluate my neck pain. She was outstanding in explaining what she thought was going on. Dr. Ulm then followed up by personally calling the pain doctor to schedule injections to help with my pain.

Dr. Ulm and his staff are the cream of the crop!! He did surgery for my husbands spinal stenosis and the results and care are excellent. My mom had surgery with Dr. Ulm 2 years ago. When my doctor told me I also had cervical stenosis, i knew Dr. Ulm was who I wanted to see. He done a great job on my neck. my pain is gone and i feel like a new person! Thank you Dr. Ulm!

I called to ask about an appointment with Dr. Ulm for a second a opinion pertaining to spine surgery. I told the office person that I already have the tests and know I need surgery. And I wanted to see the Dr. not the NP. I was told I had to go through the Nurse practitioner on a Tues and then I could ask to see the Doctor and "if possible" he would come in and talk with me. The woman at the office said I may or may not get to see him. When I told her I already know I need surgery and wanted to see the Dr. she said "Okay then" "Bye" and hung up on me!! What kind of office is this? I have never been hung up on by a anyone at a physicians office. I hope the call was recorded and this type of response will not continue to happen to prospective patients.

This is an awful attitude for any person to have terrible terrible terrible cool if you can avoid this person avoidance is your best option

He is a great doctor and surgeon.

I had a stroke and 3 aneurysms. Dr. Ulm did surgery and saved my life.

Great surgeon with even better bedside manner. I would recommend him to anyone. His NP took the time to explain my aneurysm and treatment options and walked me through the entire process.

Awesome is all I can say for him and his staff. They have been so attentive at every visit. They have listened intently to every concern and answered every question I've presented. It's clear that they genuinely care about the well-being of their patients and see them as people, not just charts and insurance policies.

Dr. Ulm took over my case...performed ballooning and coiling procedures...after a month in a coma... I LIVED, without doubt he saved my life. After learning to walk, talk, eat and breathe without a trachea I have lived a fulfilling life to this day. June of 2017 I was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma (almost 3cm) brain tumor and Chiari malformation. After bring told " sorry, I can't help you." by two other neurologist I was referred to Dr Ulm. I had many life altering symptoms due to my conditions. And only continued to get worse. Dr Ulm knew exactly how to treat my conditions and with out hesitation took me as a patient. Dr Ulm was the only surgeon in the state that would take my case. With much confidence he walked me through everything! August of 2017 I had surgery to remove the tumor and decompress the Chiari. I have been an R.N. at Skyline Med. Center for 16 years, I know which surgeons are good. When my son was diagnosed with a brain tumor this past Monday Dr Ulm was right there. My son has no insurance which made no difference to Dr Ulm, Skyline, or the staff. Dr Ulm did surgery on Wed. As far as his N.P., she most certainly exists and is extremely knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. We are early in the process but I have been very impressed with the care my son has received so far.

Dr. Ulm is tops! He is so professional. I had a coiled aneurysm in June 2015 and a clipped aneurysm in August 2015. I believe he saved my life twice.

Dr. Ulm clipped two aneurysms in my brain and did excellent work, I could have not had a better surgeon. Was taking care of by his staff and loved all of them. 3 month post-op and I don't have any problems. Everybody was so friendly and helpful.

Words cannot adequately describe my gratitude for Dr. Ulm and his staff. Best doctor I've ever knew..if all doctors were as nice as dr.ulm we would have some awesome doctors

Everything he told my friend he did and has Gave them first rate service. He kept his word and his staft is the best

They have coffee (if wish to make a cup), they treat me with respect, and don't hurt me whenever the examination happened. Referred me to other testing and follow up appointments to explain the results! I highly recommend if you are seeking help with any nerve pain along with other body pain.

Dr Ulm is so nice and he replaced 4 discs in my neck surgery. It still hurts from time to time but he gave me great releif...I think he is the best Nero surgical Dr there is I just love the work he did on me and would highly recommend him

As many people do, I have a bad back. All the typical stuff; stenosis, degeneration of bones and discs throughout my whole spine. The lumbar section is my prime issue. I've already had one surgery several years ago that took months to heal. I thought this time, getting surgery in the same location with a more complex procedure, would take just as long, if not longer, to heal. This surgeon has great skills! I was operated on the end of August this year. I was told no less than 6 weeks before he would sign off on me returning to work. I was walking upright 3 days after surgery and now, 3 weeks later, I feel well enough to go back to work! I know I still need to heal, but on my last procedure, at 5 months I was still walking and sitting gingerly. He and his staff communicated clearly with me before, during and after the procedure. Everyone came across as though they genuinely cared about how I felt. Comparing the two surgical procedures, I'd say that this guy knows what he's doing and is very good at it! Most (if not all) of these “Excellent Reviews “ are actually done by his staff, so don’t believe everything you are reading. I know this to be 100% true for a fact. He doesn’t even have a nurse, even though she (Ronnie) says she is one, she is not even a certified MA. Don’t be fooled

Went to his office twice and never saw him. I saw his nurse twice. he was supposed to see me and discuss surgery but never showed up. I left and found another doctor to fix my neck.

Dr. Ulm and his staff are wonderful! I’ve never met such a down to earth, caring Neurosurgeon! Questions are answered and time is taken with each patient! Would refer Dr. Ulm and his staff to anyone!

You will not find a better surgeon. Great bed side manners and most importantly has the knowledge/experience/reputation that you want/need when having someone work with your nervous system..

I saw Dr Ulm this past year for my neck. He and his staff made me feel like family, which made all the difference in the world to me. I received the best care I could have hoped for and would recommend Dr Ulm to anyone in my family.

after waiting for over an hour and being told twice by his PA that Dr Ulm would be in he never showed up in our room, PA came back in to say that they would be fine with whatever our neurologist wanted to do, the neurologist sent us over there to see what could be done. The charge for wasting over an hour waiting on Dr Ulm {which we never saw} and 2 visits from the PA to say he was coming and finally the answer of we do not really care go back to your neurologist was over $600.00

Best Neuro man kept me from being a quad to walking and tells it like it is and very innovative and knowledgeable in the latest developments in his field of expertise !

MY wait time was long only because he had a emergency at the hospital, I was informed every step of the entire visit. Amy made me feel very at ease about my surgery after I met her she showed me what was going o in my neck. I explained my concerns to her about waking up after surgery 15 years ago my upper extremities were paralyzed for 1 1/2 years, when I left the office I was very comfortable about the decision to go ahead with the surgery. I would recommend Dr Ulm to everyone I know!!!!!!!

Definitely a Doctor who has a passion for what he does. I will make this short saying that I definitely recommend Dr ulm to anyone who is need of his specialties that he treats. Was a patient of Dr Ulms last year and so far was a 100 percent successful surgery. Many thanks to Dr Ulm!

Its been an honor and privilege of having dr ulm as my surgeon .he has done all three of my surgeries.he has been a treasure that god sent to me . I would recommend dr ulm and his team to anybody god bless

On November 27, 2016, Dr. Ulm removed a GBM tumor from the left side of my brain. I have done extremely well; all of my initial symptoms disappeared. His office scheduled me for radiation and chemo at Vanderbilt, and I am nearly finished with my treatments. I feel that I owe the fact that I continue to live a normal life to Dr. Ulm and his staff, and the staff at Skyline Hospital.

The Army took over a year to figure out what his office did in just over a month with all the diagnostics to offer various options for treatment. Pre and Post Surgery the staff and doctors were outstanding. it has been three years since the surgery and i am super satisfied with the results. I can say that despite the surgery i am still having some residual pain and numbness, but i was advised upfront that the surgery will stabilize but that some of the symptoms may still remain. Great job

i recommending Dr. Ulm for Neurostimulation Systems he is good docter and he have good hart .

Very caring doctor and staff. Answered all my questions and responded to all my requests very quickly. Love this doctor.

Dr. Ulm treated a ruptured aneurysm. I do not remember much from the hospital but I would not have made it through without his skill and expertise. The staff have been great. Highly recommend.

They never answer the phone and nurse are very rude they told call me back in 5 min they never did it been 3 week now still haven't heard anything from them they would not help me with my back said nothing they could do so I went seen a another doctor and I got have surgery in a lot pain one of my disc off the bone

Dr. Ulm saved my life!!! Words can not express how much I love his staff , bedside manner, and his knowledge.
