When I came to Callen Lorde, I was matched up with Dr. Vavasis. Almost a year later, I have never seen him. I always get pushed off on a nurse practitioner, who seems capable, but has only been practicing five years. I have had a couple of referrals to specialists and there is always an awkward pause when they ask, 'who is your doctor'? I end up saying - I have never been allowed to see him and I really don't have a clue. Considering how hard it is to get the nurse practitioner to return calls or emails (as in never), and the fact that it takes forever to schedule follow-up appointments, if you want to feel like a 'number' in a very long waiting line at a medical deli - then he is the doctor for you. Foot note: Callen Lorder makes it almost impossible to talk to your assigned Dr. or N.P. The desk hates to take verbal messages - and when they do, my N.P. says she never has received them. The desk pushes hard for a patient to send messages (e mail) via the patient portal, but no one ever responds to mine (one of them was not opened for six weeks). You have to make an issue to be treated as a person, not a billable item.

He works at the HOTT program in Callen Lorde Health Clinic, and he's one of the most pleasant people you'll ever meet. He's so genuinely kind and caring, and will make you feel at ease.
