About Anil Kumar
Reviews for Anil Kumar
Anil Kumar, MD, worst Doctor I have ever experienced. All he was interested in was surgery with next to know no explanation. He was harsh and blamed every single health issue on weight. Barely knew me and told the secretary to set me up for surgery. I was very unhappy with this doctor and would not recommend him to anyone. Was making an issue that I did not even have and did not listen to what I had to say.
He is the absolute worst. I had an appt for mmj certification at his office. I had a referral which I didn’t need but he asked for it. Mass health allowed 12 visits thst I knew I did not need. After all, It was only a medical marijuana certification. I got the referral and a note from my doctor. She described my condition as anxiety and adhd. Both qualifying conditions. He insisted I get a second letter and make another appointment to get it. I knew I had what I needed because I did the research plus’s my doctor gave me the referral. He just saw 12 visits and was trying to maximize his pay out. I said to him I have the qualified paperwork and he said “ do you think you will get certification in one visit no it does not work like that. He suggested I had ptsd and offered me ketamine aka narcotics. He asked me to get a ptsd diagnosis from my therapist. I never mentioned PTSD. I think what I needed was (qualification) to be certified. Not number of visits I have accumulated with you.

Highly recommend Dr Kumar. You’re not just a patient they make you feel more like family. After years of dealing with chronic pain I finally found a Dr that cares. From the staff to the PA’s really feel the need to update my comment. Just read a comment from a patient that said they would not recommend advanced pain management. Nothing could be further from the truth she stated that the operating room was filthy riches so false. And that Dr Kumar cares nothing more than money. Sometimes you hear this from people that just come they’re trying to get medication and that’s not what Dr Kumar does. If he feels that injections will help that is his first. He cares very much about his patients. Highly recommend Dr Kumar. You’re not just a patient they make you feel more like family. Extremely negative environment that caused me to dread my appointments. Constant turnover in physician assistants had me reexplaining my condition over and over again. Wait times are often extreme. Communication with Dr. Kumar is extremely difficult at best. He has little regard for patients long term well-being. He violated his duty of care with me, leaving me in distress and needing my PCP to step in to keep me from a serious negative outcome. I would give zero stars if I could. Don’t go to this doctor or allow anyone you care for go there.

Private, friendly, and reliable. I'm so thankful for Dr Kumar and his amazing staff.
I have been a patient at Advanced Pain management for 15 years. I’ve recommended it to several people. Everyone there is the best. Doctors are great in the procedures. Alway make you feel comfortable and at ease. Would highly recommend them.
I have been a patient of Dr Kumar’s for at least 10 yrs. He does everything he can to treat my Cervical Dystonia/Spasmodic Torticollis. Before finding Dr. Kumar I saw many specialists at the “Best Boston” hospitals and none of them have helped me as much as Dr. Kumar has!!! Being with this practice for so long, I obviously am happy with my treatment. The office staff are friendly, helpful and professional. They also do procedures in their surgical suite which is right across the hall! Bonus: plenty of free parking - No running around to different hospitals/offices & paying $20-$30 for parking...see if you get this with any other doctor - I think not ! I have recommended this practice to many people over the years And will continue to do so

Always very attentive with friendly attitude
The Nurse Practitioner I saw today was wonderful and the staff is always great! Everyone’s job is really hard right now with everything that is going on with the outcome of Covid. I hope the staff, doctors and Nurse Practitioners are treated with compassion during this time as they deal with our pain.
I can’t say enough good things about Dr Kunmar and his awesome staff. I’ve had 5 back surgeries in the last 10 years or so and was told to try pain management. I have days when it’s extremely difficult just to get dressed and start my day. Since I’ve been at pain management their doing exactly what I need. My pain to be managed. Dr Kunmar, and his staff will do everything they can to help you to get the best out of your day. I can’t say enough good things about Dr Kunmar and his awesome staff. I won’t recommend Dr.Kumar to anyone First off he cares more about your money and NOT the patients needs He lies to get you in then dose a 360 on you Stuff is unprofessional operation room if dirty
I suffered pains from severe eczema for almost a year and I was unable to walk. I had been seeing a dermatologist, a podiatrist and my primary doctor and none of them helped me with my pain. Dr Kumar took one look at my feet and legs and told me I had to get to the Mass General Hospital emergency room ASAP. He also prescribed something to help me sleep. Two days later I went to the MGH emergency room and they immediately admitted me and as of today, 09/17/21, I am still a patient there and getting better. I think Dr. Kumar saved my life.

I am a patient of Dr. Anil Kumar. I have a lot of respect for him. He sits down with you and is very patient and professional and personable. The staff is so awesome I always enjoy seeing them. I would recommend anyone to go here as he does help with my pain and I appreciate Dr. Kumar and his associates. Millie Bowman
He is an awful Person asked me to bring my oxycodone and give it to him Unprofessional !!! He was dirty as well As the other dr who worked there , did not even have on clean suit saw him 2 times wearing the same suit both times and didn’t even comb his hair . Then I told him I have great fear of epidurals he booked it anyway I cancelled it . Even if I was not scared of a needle in my back I Would not get it there he was so dirty looking and asking me to give him Pain meds . Disgusting , the pic of him Is old he needs to be investigated . I think he is money hungry wanting to give expensive shots to Bill the insurance company . His office staff does not look like the pic !! It’s just a disgusting place !!! Honestly he was rude as well and the clientele there was scary . Stay away not a good DR then called my new primary to tell him To cut down my pain meds in thinking he is threatening to cut down pain meds to replace with injections . STAY AWAY !!
Doctor Kumar is not involved with each patient’s care. The team of physicians don’t communicate properly and there’s no true plan of action for each patient. Dr Kumar didn’t have any experience with my pain condition; he and his team then decided to focus on my Spine. I found that to be extremely odd and rather rude. I was given several Nerve block treatments without a local anesthetic. My first Nerve block was done incorrectly, but with anesthetic spray. I assume that they chose not to use the spray again in order to cut costs. I was told that I had to get these painful & unnecessary procedures if I wanted to be prescribed new pain medication. Urine tox screens are done in cheap instant result cups. No level test done—even after requesting it. I was told to quit my old prescription, “cold turkey” & once I passed the tox screen I’d be prescribed better medication. 17 days of withdrawals, no lab testing or blood work. They claim it’s invasive—I think they ment expensive!

AT FIRST, Dr. Kumar helped me tremendously with my severe back/knee pain. After 3 years of trusting Kumar to manage my chronic pain & succesfully treating my back pain with the right pain medication, I was finally pain free. My next appointment,Dr.Kumar randomly & wrongfully told me he won't refill my pain meds anymore because of the opioid epidemic. My drug tests were always negative, and he punishes me for the opioid crisis. Kumar had NO reason to mistreat a patient like this. I am devastated!

October 11th was my first and last visit at the Advanced Pain Management clinic in Stoneham. I saw Dr. Kumar and he was extremely insensitive and rude during our visit. A lot happened during our visit but I’d like to go over what bothered me the most. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and Fibromyalgia along with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, OCD and have struggled with eating disorders (anorexia & bulimia) for 10 years now. He was asking about my mental illnesses and when I had mentioned that I have OCD, he asked me why I thought that I have OCD so I replied that I was diagnosed with it and he was asking me who diagnosed it and asked for examples so I gave them. One of those examples was that I have obsessive thoughts about my appearance and self. He told me that I should cut back on one of my medications (Gabapentin) that’s really helping me because my weight is on the “heavy side” and the medication is “making me FAT”. He put a lot of emphasis on that one word. There are ways to tell someone that you would like them to lose weight in a nice way and when someone has an eating disorder, it’s a more delicate situation. That information is in my records and he can see it. I told him that most days are quite difficult for me and I asked him if there are any pain medications besides narcotics that could help me. Also, let me add that Gabapentin does not cause weight gain! He wanted to prescribe me Tramadol and another medication, Provigil that I hadn’t heard of. The Provigil medication was for daytime sleepiness and I told him that I don’t have that but apparently because I’m a smoker, I do (That’s what he told me). I told him I didn’t think I needed that nor did I want a prescription for it. I hate medication which I expressed to him and no one should take unnecessary medications. I mentioned that I had gotten several cortisone shots in the past year or so for my hip and he wanted me to make an appointment to get a cortisone shot and I told him that it wasn’t bothering me right now so I didn’t see the need for it and he told me I should do it anyway. He wanted me to quit smoking asap and asked what my plan is to quit. I told him that I would need to gradually cut back before quitting and he told me that wouldn’t matter and it would do nothing for me. He wanted me to quit then and there basically and told me that I’m doing nothing about it after I told him that I already have been cutting back. After he tried to phone one of his staff members so they could write my prescription and couldn’t get them after 3 times, he told me to wait and then went to the receptionist area and started verbally abusing his staff members. He was asking why no one answered the phone and exaggerated that he called 10 times, asked where one of his staff were and when no one knew, said “You all are the worst team ever” among other things. If he were my boss, I would have walked out. I wanted to walk out of that room and I should have. I have PTSD from childhood trauma and was already upset as it was but I was trying to keep it together as he was saying horrible things to his staff. He came back in, and then told me that I “need to smile more”. I looked at him and said that I have depression. Then I told him about my eating disorders and how what he said about my weight hurt me because I struggle every day with trying not to starve myself, to exercise more, etc and it’s hard when you’re both in chronic pain and have depression. To that, he replied that I can “sit, cry about it and feel sorry for myself” or I can “go exercise and lose weight”. After I just explained how the pain makes it difficult. More happened but I feel that these are the most important highlights. NO ONE deserves this kind of treatment from a Doctor. I called back later and cancelled the 2 week appointment for a cortisone shot that I was pressured into making and said I won’t be filling the prescription that was given to me and that I won’t be returning, either. Dr Kumar was my last resort, surely there was a doctor out there who was up to the challenge of an inoperable back condition, he was sent directly from heaven, he is making it possible for me to do the things I enjoy doing and making it a little better to do the things I do not enjoy doing, but are necessary in life, and my treatment is on going, I expect to get better and better as time goes by instead of worse, without him, thank you Dr Kumar, with all my heart, Susan Willett

Dr. Kumar has been my doctor for 23 years and he is the only Doctor that I would ever trust to help me deal with the pain that I have from an overhead door spring totally mutilating my right hand and leaving me at the time thinking that I would never be able to use it again.whith the help of Dr. Kumar and his excellent and knowledgeable staff I am able to lead a " normal" life at work and at home. Thank you Dr. Kumar and staff. Mike D.
Dr Kumar has put together a great team at Advanced Pain Management, the staff is very curtious and the doctors actually listen to you when you talk to them! I would and have recommended friends to go there!

STAY AWAY! Rudest medical front office staff I have ever experienced. I was referred by my Dr. because this Dr. is in his network. They double bill you if you need an office visit and something simple like trigger point injections. Also If you do not go every month and only need a visit every 6-12 months they will drop you. Also when I wanted to go back they claimed I owed $250...never got one bill and paid every visit copay on a CC. I have proof but no one calls you back! Scammers!
