Andrew J Kokkino

I had a benign tumor removed. It had grown back 4 different times throughout a 47 year time span. This time it jhad grown outside my skill toward my eye and inside my skull toward my brain. As well, I had to get two additional emergency surgery when my initial scar opened up twice. Thinning skin made my surgery difficult. Dr. Kokkino was my primary team specialist along with two other exceptional professionals and multiple others. He repeatedly listened to my concerns with a compassionate ear, explained my scans and answered any and all of my questions. I had a titanium skull plate piece put in. He oversaw that procedure and all others. When I had a concern or a question he listened, and he explained everything in layman terms, making sure I understood. I felt at ease in his competent surgeon hands, at peace with his decisions about my health and reassured by his obvious intent to take me seriously. He was respectful, compassionate and professional. His skilled hands made my operation a success, with no recurring tumor at this point and no sign of one. I am recovering, but always getting better. It's a long road for recovery from brain surgery-no matter what. He has been on (and by) my side all this time. I feel very grateful. I was treated with respect and dignity by the doctor and his office assistant. His care has led to my success. Thank you.

Dr. Kokkino is a true professional, and an amazing surgeon. He was caring, and empathetic to my situation, and my needs. I suffered a broken back as a result of an accident. He performed surgery on my broken back, and from the moment I woke up in recovery, I felt that I had been "put back together" by a true knowledgeable professional. His follow up was excellent, and I am doing very well. Thank you Dr. Kokkino!

Best professional surgeon I have probably ever met.

I would not recommend Dr. Kokkino. Last year, my sister went to Dr. Andrew Kokkino for a consultation regarding a brain tumor. After reviewing her MRI and hearing the pain she was experiencing he dismissed her. Instead of telling her that he did not feel comfortable trying to resolve the problem or at a minimum, recommending another doctor, he made her feel that she simply had chronic headaches and told her to come back in 6 months. My sister was suffering and he dismissed her. She went back to her primary care physician to relay to her what had happened. Luckily, her primary care physician referred her to another neurosurgeon who was able to help her. Dr. Kokkino is not a compassionate doctor. I would not recommend him to anyone. Stay away from him. I would not recommend Dr. Kokkino. Last year, my sister went to Dr. Kokkino for a consultation and to review an MRI to due a lump on her head and regular headaches. After reviewing her MRI and hearing from her directly, he dismissed her. Instead of telling her that he did not feel comfortable trying to help or at a minimum refer her to another neurosurgeon, he dismissed her. He told her that perhaps she suffered from chronic headaches and told her to come back in 6 months. This was an unacceptable response. He showed no compassion. After the unfortunate meeting with Dr. Kokkino, my sister relayed her experience with her primary care physician. Luckily, her primary care physician referred her to another neurosurgeon in Portland, OR who promptly reviewed her MRI and met with her. He was able to help my sister and scheduled her surgery. My sister is now doing great. She is on the road to a full recovery. Stay away from Dr. Kokkino. His actions were shocking.

I was referred by my Doctor for my neck pain. After he introduced himself he asked me ‘what are you even doing here.’ He had both MRIs of my neck and lower back from 2021, my L5 is slipped over my S1 considerably, worse then my MRI from 2015 that he also had. He basically acted like I was wasting his time and made me feel horrible about my referral. His directions to me were, take your anti inflammatory not even setting up any kind of treatment plan to keep my spinal issues from getting worse. I was referred by my Doctor for my neck pain. Dr. Kokkino has been really great so for, but the staff in the office especially his scheduler Sarah has been very unprofessional and very unsympathetic to my partner's and my needs. Sarah is not at all helpful with explaining information. and when the front office made a mistake no one apologized and Sarah said we needed to figure it out ourselves and hung up on us, and when I called to make a complaint I just got the run around and no one has never gotten back to us. I had back surgery with Kokkino and his team. He was extremely hard to get ahold of and did not properly manage my pain and medication. His PA Jodi is also horrible. She was rude and actually raised her voice to me over the phone saying “you are really taking up a lot of time and money”. I have debilitating pain and I was not pleased nor satisfied with the care I received. They were rushed and unprofessional. I had back surgery with Kokkino and his team. I found dr. Kokino to be a great surgeon. Very informative , compassionate, and made me feel comfortable. I would recommend him to others that i know. However his assistant sara is nothing nice . she doesnt call back when you leave a message nor does she do what she says shes going to do. Dr. Kokkino appears to be a fine surgeon but his PA Sara does not return phone calls. I recently had back surgery and ended up with inflamed nerves causing significant pain in my leg. A 5 day course of anti- inflammatorty helped a great deal. I called to see about a second course and got Sara's voice mail and left a message asking for a call back. No call back. Same thing happened while trying to schedule the operation. No matter how good the surgeon is not being able to communicate with him or his office makes for a poor practice of medicine. I can only imagine what it would be like to have a serious complication after surgery and be totally ignored by the only contact person at his office. I think Dr. Kokino is an extremly amazing surgeon. He did my last surgery and I will only go back to him if I have the need!!

On June 8, 2020 Dr. Kokkino performed surgery on my C4-5, C5-6 discs, which included Anterior Cervical Discectomies, Insertion of Biomechanical Devices, Allograft Arthrodesis, and Plating. At the initial consultation, I immediately felt comfortable. He explained all options in great detail, and showed compassion and empathy. His confidence and demeanor put me at ease. Dr. Kokkino checked in on me the morning of surgery, and when I told him how nervous I was, he smiled a very genuine smile and said, "I'm not", and reassured me that I would be in good hands. The surgery went smoothly, and afterwards he was excited to show me images of what he had done, and once again explained the procedure in detail, and answered all of my questions patiently and thoroughly. Several nurses during my hospital stay, asked me who performed my surgery, and when I said his name every one of them replied, "I love Dr. Kokkino!" He showed me the same care and compassion at my re-check on August 5th. I see him again this November for my three month post surgery checkup, and I'm looking forward to thanking him for the hundredth time for his professionalism, knowledge, compassion, empathy, and care that he provided for me. I am so thankful that Dr. Kokkino was my surgeon, and I would absolutely recommend him without hesitation! On 3/9/2021, I had an L4-5 Laminectomy Fusion& bilateral Pedicle Screw Fixation surgery. I had been in so much pain, & now I dont have that pain anymore. Oh sure I'm a bit sore from using muscles that I haven't been able to exercise for awhile. But the sciatic nerve pain is no longer there! I can't believe it! I'm a different person, my personality is back. I'm no longer in debilitating pain! I am so gratefull to Dr. Kokkino! And the hospital staff& nurses at Peace Health Riverbend were amazing as well! Thanks again!

He doesn't deserve one star. This doctor is an arrogant ass! My daughter finally got into see him after being told by his co-workers on two occasions that she would require surgery. She has had severe neck pain and arm numbness for over a year. So what does he tell her, "I don't see why you would be in so much pain. You should see a pain management specialist."without even making eye contact. Don't go to this ass, he apparently thinks he's way to important for the ordinary people!

Dr Kokkino is kind, caring, and compassionate.

Dr. Kokkino is great he is very informative and patient with answering questions, but the staff is not professional and when they make mistakes they don't apologize, or try to fix the problem, Dr. Kokkinos scheduler Sarah is very unprofessional and is not willing to explain questions and she is very incentive we we're trying to ask questions and she hung up on me and my partner, we have tried to make a complaint but we just get the run around, and no one ever calls us back. I hope things will get better.

Dr Kokkino and his assistant Sierra did an amazing job of going over my MRI with video detail. I fully understand what the issues are and what they are going to do.

They say that when you are ill you only need ONE provider to show compassion to give you hope. He is definitely the ONE!! He is caring, reassuring, dedicated, intelligent, down to earth, and such a pleasure. I trust my husband’s brain to Dr. Kokkino and I would trust my own. ???? Candy Mull

Thank you for taking such good care of my Mom and that pesky brain tumor! You were wonderful to her, and she felt very safe under your care. Her recovery has been amazing, thanks to your medical and surgical expertise.

I was impressed with Dr. Kokkino the 1st time I saw him. He told me I was not a surgical candidate because there was a high risk of post-op quadriplegia (but he didn't dictate that reason in his chart notes). The 2nd time I saw Dr. Kokkino, he spent the whole appointment yelling at me about my smoking & A1C but refused to tell me the reason he was NOW needing to perform surgery on me (& he dictated that I wasn't a surgical candidate because I didn't take my health seriously). I finally called his office to specifically ask him the reason I was NOW needing to have surgery, in spite of the high risk of post-op quadriplegia. The 3rd time I tried to make an appointment with Dr. Kokkino, he pawned me off on his NP; he wouldn't 'fit' me into his schedule.

I would highly recommend Dr. Kokkino! He is very professional, and has your best interest at heart. He listened to everything I had to say, he asked me questions before he diagnosed. I would truly trust my life in his hands! Thank You!

Love the MD, but his office staff could use a lesson in empathy. Sometimes “sorry” goes along way in addressing ones complaints..the nice looking gal at desk couldn’t have cared less that I had to drag my 80 year Mother from NWSS to the sky ridge and then up and down the elevators trying to find his office. Had someone mentioned it when they called to confirm our appointment it would certainly have saved my ill Mother some steps... Dr Kokkino is an amazing Dr. He addressed all of our worries and made us feel very confident in his treatment for me. He was my neurosurgeon for my brain surgery and took great care of me before, during, and after my surgery. I would definitely refer him 100%

Dr. Kokkino did my back surgery almost 6 yrs ago. Another neuro surgeon in Eugene said he "didn't know where to start with my back". Dr. Kokkino knew exactly what to do. He even went to bat for me with the insurance company who had denied to cover the surgery. He and his staff are caring and extremely competent. This is a great team. We have found Dr. Kokkino to be down to earth, compassionate, understanding and very professional. He frankly answers our questions and helps us get a vision of our future. I had Gamma Knife surgery last summer and continue to improve at every follow up appointment.

Dr. Kokkino is great. He is compassionate and caring. The office staff are all nice and helpful. If you need a Neuro Surgeon this is the place. Thank you to Dr. Kokkino and staff.

Kokinno was quite personable and answered all my questions fully. I just wish doctors could be more forthcoming; they say one thing to your doctor, but then another, (or leave salient facts outs), when speaking to you. All you docs, just be real!

I would just like to say Dr. Kokkino was concerned and compassionate about my condition and acted quickly to form a plan to remove my pituitary gland tumor ASAP. He knew what he was doing and in less than a month I was in Surgery. He did a outstanding job, I am healthy, happy and recovering quickly. Dr. Kokkino is a quack... He missed diagnosed My Great Aunt with cancer of the spine... And when she asked about it Dr. Kokkino said he never said that and called her a lier! Then she pulled out the paper where it said he diagnosed her with spine cancer! He got all mad and sad his staff misunderstood!!! And when I saw him after My accident.. I was treated rude and he said I had arthritis not whiplash.. And guess what?! I have whiplash not arthritis Terrible doctor with a horrible bedside manor

I was referred to this doctor for a second opinion about my back surgery, and the response I received was "we are planning out for at least six months and we just don't have time to entertain second opinions." At this office they are careless in their approach to the needs of others and I can't justify the rudeness and disrespect applied to my referral. I would not suggest using this office for ANYTHING.

Recently diagnosed with a brain tumor, I was referred to Dr. Kokkino. It was like pulling teeth to get an appointment, and every time I called there was some excuse "Dr. needs to review chart, Dr. is out, PA needs to review chart, etc., etc." By the time I finally got a call from his office to schedule, I had a consult with another surgeon and I was told Dr. Kokkino wouldn't treat patients seeking 2nd opinions!

Extremely rude, arrogant and condescending. I see many specialists and he is unprofessional and unsympathetic as I have ever come across. Thankfully, I have a much kinder surgeon who actually treats people with dignity. I left his office in tears, and I don't cry easily. Horrible experience.

I had back surgery January 11, 2016 with excellent results. Would recommend Dr. Kokkino. It takes time to get an appointment with him because he is very busy. When you are one of the best, that's what happens. His skills are excellent and as his patient, i recommend you follow directions to have a great outcome.

I would never recommend this office to anyone. After being referred by my orthopedic surgeon to Dr. Kokkino, I am still waiting,after several weeks, for an appointment and am giving sundry excuses for this (doctor has not yet reviewed the chart, he is out of the office, etc.) It is an abysmal lack of courtesy to the referring physician or to a patient in pain.
