I had stenosis of the cervical spine. The MRI looked bad but hadn't changed in 3 years or more and I was still getting around well (riding a Harley, flying a plane, etc.) Dr. Bydon assured me that I would eventually go paralyzed if I didn't have surgery and I trusted JHU surgeons so I went ahead and agreed. All I can do is compare quality of life after surgery with with that before and everything is worse. The surgery turned me into a weak little old man wobbling around with a cane. I was never fully informed on the recovery process ahead of time. Think twice!

If you are fortunate enough to get Dr Bydon, rest assured that you are in the best possible hands. He is smart, extremely qualified and nothing short of amazing. I did not have any concerns about his skill level or competence. I felt at ease with him from my first appointment and never questioned his plan.

I had/have an intramedullary spinal cord tumor and cysts that were significantly compressing my spinal cord and causing many debilitating symptoms such as weakness of legs and loss of sensory feel. I was having significant trouble driving, walking, climbing stairs, and my life had drastically changed. I am 25, so I was not prepared to throw my hands up and accept this as my future as all other neurosurgeons had told me, stating that me "remaining the same" would be considered a success. My mother and I came to Dr. Bydon dejected and with very little hope. He immediately told us "we had come to the right place" and all hope was restored. He was the first practitioner that had given us a confident response to my diagnosis, and that was honestly all we needed. We went forward with surgery, and, while he was not able to remove all of the tumor without paralyzing me, he was able to remove all of the cysts, and I am back to normal activities and functionality only 2 months out from surgery.

Very late, did not review my case, wasn’t prepared, played with his phone and texted, didn’t look at my MRI, very poor case review.

My visit was poor in many regards. First he was late over an hour, he was not prepared and didn’t review my MRI, he didn’t review the medical notes I sent, kept repeating questions I already answered, was obsessed with his phone and just not listening. His body was present but his mind was elsewhere. Extremely disappointed. Go elsewhere.

My father had laminectomy surgery with Dr Bydon on 9/7/21. Prior to surgery, he could not walk very far and couldn't stand for longer than a few minutes. He also had pain in his legs that made him miserable. After the surgery, he was able to walk quite a bit and the pain in his legs is gone. I am most appreciative of Dr Byrdon and his skill. My father and I care for my mother and this surgery was literally life changing for us. I was also most appreciative of his staff who did everything they could to help us get this surgery scheduled.

Dr. Bydon is amazing! I arrived at John Hopkins on Sunday, 12/20/2020 with a compression fracture and tumor on my spine. Transferred from another hospital, he had accepted my case and when I arrived there was already a plan in motion for my care. He is without a doubt the most caring and compassionate doctor I've met. I had my surgery with him on Tuesday, 12/22 and came home on Christmas Day. My spinal fusion went well and he referred me to another doctor at John Hopkins who completed by cyberknife treatments in January 2021 to address any leftover tumor tissue. Today, i had my 8 week checkin with him and I'm doing wonderfully well. I am happy to say that I've been pain free since I came home on 12/25. The entire staff that works with him is extremely professional and they truly care about their patients.

I was diagnosed with myelomalachia of the spinal cord in my C-spine. I needed to have spinal surgery soon as I was losing use of my left arm and other problems with balance and pain. I discovered that US News & World Report rates hospitals nationwide every year. They rate Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore as having the number one neurosurgery department. To be honest, I was scared, but the surgery went so well, and the results are amazing! The numbness, tingling and pain in my neck, shoulder and left arm is completely gone! I've had 7 surgeries in my life and this 8th surgery, my most serious one by far, done by Dr. Ali Bydon, MD, at Johns Hopkins, was the most pain free, worry free, most comfortable and most successful surgery I've experienced. Dr. Bydon is an amazing surgeon and everyone on his surgical team was so friendly and so professional, I was and am still so impressed with them all. I'm SO happy that I was lucky enough to have Dr. Bydon perform my surgery.

Late Tuesday, my wife drove me to the Hopkins Emergency Dept in critical condition: I hadn't been able to eat, walk or even turn in bed. Reviewing my Xrays the next morning, Dr. Ali Bydon said my spinal cord was almost completely severed. There was no time to lose, in another day I'd be permanenty paralyzed. Even though Dr. Bydon had spent all Wednesday operating on previously scheduled patients, he worked into the night with his neurosurgery team to rescue my spinal cord. Not only did I have osteoporosis from cancer therapy - but a deadly staph infection had eaten through my bones. Dr. Bydon studied my spine for an hour to find where to firmly anchor the 2 long titanium rods, 8 large screws plus a 'cage'. During recovery at Hopkins, I learned that patients fly in from faraway countries to be operated on by Dr. Bydon. Today, I am 4 inches shorter - but I am walking and driving -- and most grateful for the skilled care of one of the world's foremost spinal surgeons.

Don't see this provider! He hadn't read my file, so I had to explain my situation to him, while he looked angry and irritated. Then he said that he could do surgery, and that the appointment was over. I didn't even know what surgery he was talking about! When I asked a few questions about the surgery, he got nastier, and kept talking over me and giving condescending answers. When I asked about less invasive procedures, he had no idea what I was talking about. I have no confidence in his skills, so I will be getting surgery elsewhere.

I broke my neck and was paralyzed from my neck down after a fall and was taken to Hopkins Bayview Hospital. Lucky for me Dr. Bydon was the doctor on call. After operating on me I was still paralyzed. Dr. Bydon was very comforting to me and my family. He answered all of our questions. I am happy to say after a lot of physical and occupational therapy I am walking again. I would recommend Dr. Bydon anytime. I am forever grateful to him.

Dr. Bydon is a wise and wonderful neurosurgeon. I saw him at Johns Hopkins and after careful evaluation of my scoliosis, he referred me to Dr. Brian Neuman for the spine deformity portion of my care. Lucky me! I now had 2 top surgeons caring for me. Dr. Neuman did 2 of my surgeries and Dr. Bydon worked with him on one. Great to have such a fabulous team looking out for me. I am very pleased with the outcome. When I first saw these surgeons I was walking bent over my walker. I am straighter without being over corrected...something my previous surgeon neglected to do. These surgeons worked well together and treated me with kindness, skill and care.

Dr. Bydon performed surgery on my spine in October of 2019. He, his associates, and his office support staff have been professional, kind, supportive, and highly competent at every step. He provided extensive information beforehand which greatly calmed my concerns about such serious surgery. And, best of all, the surgery was 100% successful.

I had spinal surgery with Dr. Bydon on Dec 10th, 2019. My experience with Dr. Bydon, (and his team) from diagnosis to post op visit was a wonderful example of what quaility health care should be. He was compassionate about my pain, clear in his description of the medical diagnosis and patient with my questions about the surgery. The results of my surgery are wonderful. At a time when pain creates discomfort and anxiety, I felt that Dr. Bydon and his team not only provided excellent medical care but also compassionate support. Thank you Dr. Bydon!

Dr Bydon saw me as a result of challenges I was having with my C-Spine. He carefully discussed my issues and helped to manage my expectations for what "recovery" would look like post surgery. His bedside manner is some of the best I have encountered. Post recovery I have been able to return to all the activities he had indicated I would be able. The recovery time he laid out for me allowed me to return to my active lifestyle in a shorter period of time then other colleagues whom have had similar procedures from other practitioners. I would without hesitation provide my highest recommendation for Dr. Bydon and his team.

Dr Bydon is one the finest, most caring surgeons I have ever encountered. He has performed two spinal surgeries, one in April of 2019 and May of 2008. The surgery in April I was in such severe pain I could not walk. I arrived that morning in a wheelchair...three days later I was discharged walking. All of my questions have always been thoughtfully addressed as well as all my concerns. I have always recommended Dr Bydon to anyone that has had spinal problems or needed surgery. We are so fortunate to have Dr Bydon and his team as well as Johns Hopkins Hospital here in Baltimore.

After months with a bulging disc, a few days with a herniated disc, and hours of numbness I went to the ER and was diagnosed with Cauda Equina syndrome. Approximately 4 hrs later I was on the table getting the offending disc removed and an L3-L4 fusion. After surgery the prognosis was grim but due to the ER staff's quick thinking and Dr. Bydon's steady hand my recovery has gone much better than expected.

I recently had two spine surgeries with Dr Ali Bydon. I had had serious issues with spinal compression for the last few years, which had gotten to the point that a fall could have been fatal or caused paralysis. My spinal surgery needed was very problematic, and another surgeon said he would not attempt it. I had reached the point where I needed a walker for the shortest walks around the house, with poor balance, and the main purpose of the surgery was stabilization. Following the surgeries, the results were beyond any expectations. Not only had the spine been stabilized, but my balance had improved to the point where a walker was only necessary for longer outside walks, and my stamina was greatly improved. Dr Bydon has my highest recommendation. He was attentive at all times, and you will be in good hands with him. Maria in Fredericksburg Virginia

I had spinal stenosis and Dr. Bydon was my surgeon. From the consultation through the surgery, Dr. Bydon and his staff were courteous, attentive to my questions, and highly competent. What I like about Johns Hopkins is that they have a team approach, so you have several people who assist you throughout the process. It has been seven weeks since my fusion surgery, and my lower back pain has been greatly diminished.

I had spinal surgery on 2/7/19 to correct a pinched nerve in my right leg. Dr. Bydon, who was my surgeon, explained all of the details of the operation needed to correct my pinched nerve. He is very relaxed when talking to patients and takes his time explaining all that will happen during the operation and after. He went over all of the details on my MRI and X-Rays to ensure I knew what the issues were and what to expect. I would recommend Dr. Bydon to anyone seeking relief from sciatica.

My experience with Dr Bydon and his staff (Corey & Laura) was beyond fantastic! They are caring, answers all your questions and Dr Bydon is upfront about what your expectations should be about surgery. Your appt are usually right on time and your followups after surgery are always with Dr Bydon. He performed a fusion on L3, L4, L5 and S1 and I was walking 5 hours after surgery unassisted (no walker), felt great all the pain was gone.

Dr. Bydon was fantastic. He did a great job with my micro lumbar disectomy. He was very honest about my recovery, recovery time and expectations. His staff are always super helpful and responsive. If I had any questions about anything, they responded to me right away. I could barely walk on my first consultation with them, and now I am almost completely back to my old self. It’s been two years since my back surgery with Dr. Bydon. I had eight titanium screws placed in my back to stabilize four lower discs. It was painful at the time, recovery went faster than I could have imagined. Happy to say the operation was a complete success. After interviewing three doctors we choose Dr. Bydon based on his experience, intelligence and compassion for me and my family. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I highly recommend him and his team.

From my first interaction with Dr. Bydon's office (Corey), I knew I would be treated with dignity and receive excellent care. And it all came true. I had severe lumbar stenosis and my first appointment with Dr. Bydon was very informative and he was most compassionate. His caring manner continued through surgery, hospitalization and follow-up visits. My hospital experience at Johns Hopkins was perfect. I could not have asked for better care. I highly recommend Dr Byron. I found Dr Bydon on the JH website and watched his webinar. I had a synovial cyst and sciatica with leg pain. Dr Bydon recommended PT and injections before considering surgery and if they don’t work then we will discuss surgery. I had surgery on 1/16 and walked out the hospital on 1/17/2018 with no back or leg pain, 2 visits after surgery, I feel great, he is warm, friendly and very thorough, the BEST.

Saw three different surgeons before seeing Dr. Bydon. He looked at my MRI, asked me a number of questions about my symptoms and then told me that he could fix what was wrong with me. Had Spinal Fusion surgery, L4 to S1...recovery is not that painful, it is limiting in terms of how tight your body is. Six months later, standing upright, little nerve pain and can walk for 8-10 miles a day on the treadmill. Dr. Bydon did what he said he would do...gave me back a more active life.

Dr. Bydon was very through in discussing all options to preserving my mobility and nerve function. I will say, he is very open and direct when discussing ALL available treatment options. Dr. Ali Bydon is a fantastic surgeon. He performed spinal surgery (L2 to S1) on me in April 2017 due to the horrific pain I was experiencing in my back and down my right leg. He literally gave me back my life. In the five months post surgery, I can now walk 10,000 steps each day again and take part in all my former physical activities. Without his skill, knowledge and expertise I would not have the complete recovery that I am currently experiencing. He is a treasure! Thanks Dr. Bydon.

Dr. Bydon performed 2 C-Spine surgeries, 3 weeks apart, and the results were amazing. I had an arthritic deformity, the dowager's hump, on my upper back, and pinched nerves in C 3-7 leaving my hands numb, unable to play piano, or work at the computer without excruciating pain. After both procedures, discectomy, fusion, and posterior rods, I can move, and there is no more pain or numbness. Dr. Bydon had the compassion and commitment to do this job thoroughly, giving me the best possible outcome.

From the moment I sat down with Dr. Bydon, he made me feel comfortable. In detail, he explained my MRI results, and how they affected my body. When I elected to have surgery, his talent was evident in the quick healing of both the incision and the innards of my back (L4-S1 decompressive laminectomy). I was driving within one week, back to work in two weeks, and only have minor occasion aches a month later. This man is truly a miracle doctor. I cannot say enough good about my experience.

There are certainly many surgeons in the United States who are exceptionally skilled. A few are gifted with exceptional skill as well as genuine compassion and care. Dr Ali Bydon should be counted as one of the latter. Having been evacuated by air ambulance out of Honduras, my daughter Ka'ren was admitted to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where Dr. Byron and his team performed emergency surgery. We will always be grateful for the care she received.

I had an unpleasant encounter consulting with this neurosurgeon. He didn't answer my questions thoroughly nor was he current in any minimally invasive spine surgery procedures. Dr. Bydon showed me no real concern or a concerted effort to help me after making a long distance travel arrangements especially to come see him. He deflected my care to another specialist outside the JHH medical system. This surgeon demonstrates no good work ethic or commitment to his patients.

My wife, A registered nurse for the last 30 years, saw Dr. Bydon yesterday 3/16/16. She said he was the worst most unprofessional and judgmental Doctor she has ever met of seen in her life. He had no idea about her case. (She was referred by his colleague), Had no manners, wouldn't let her get a word in edgewise while explaining her condition and constantly belittled her and made her feel terrible about the prospect of having him perform surgery on her. She left in tears.
