Dr. Alejandro J Betancourt

My mother had 2 brain surgeries with Dr. Betancourt and they were both a failure. Mother had a third surgery and this time with another surgeon and he was able to remove all the meningioma tumor. I’d be more than glad to share that mom is tumor free and doing great after 1 year of suffering. ????

Excellent doctor was part of the team of doctors who took care of me he put a piece of my skull back after it was removed to give space to my brain since it was swollen after a stroke was put back after swelling was gone. I thank God for his life and heart for taking care of me .

Called about 10 times and they never answer.

Absolutely disappointed in this medical practice. My elderly father has been waiting for over 3 weeks to get a simple schedule for a spinal injection to relieve his back pain and this office has yet to complete the task of setting the appointment. AN APPOINTMENT, this doesn't even include the time it will take for the insurance to approve the procedure. When speaking to my father and hearing his desperation and confusion about the situation I chose to call myself only to be given the same answer "that the person in charge of scheduling still hasn't completed the steps necessary to send it over for approval to the insurance because they have other tasks to tend to on top of scheduling"....now don't get me wrong this is understandable but to leave someone waiting for over 3 weeks in pain and discomfort is absolutely unprofessional and quite frankly sends a message that this doctor and his practice do not care about the wellbeing of their patients. I pray that this review reaches out to others in hopes that this doesn't happen to themselves or a family member that they care about. Absolutely disappointed in this medical practice. I dont recommend him to anybody he did the worst job on my 2 year old nephew, and last night that we almost lost him this man refused to see him. thank god he made it to corpus and their taking care of him. His excuse he didnt remember ever seeing my nephew after i dont know how many surgerys he did to him. Im not sure if this man has kids or grandkids but i hope he never goes through what we went through. My first surgery was last April but I need another for another reason. Im supposed to pre op tomorrow i was told they would send paperwork last week. I called hospital nothing and just my luck the lady that sends that stuff is not there. Andrea is trying to see if she can get it done without the other person. Ahe promised to call me back to tell me surgery as scheduled paperwork send but I have a feeling its gonna be postponed My first surgery was last April but I need another for another reason. He is a good doctor

Excellent surgeon. Was sent here to have a pituitary tumor removed. Was removed successfully with no issues or complications. Would defently recommend him, and his staff are very polite and understanding.

I’m very pleased with my surgery and the professionalism I have been treated with. The staff was very friendly and cautious due to Pandemic. My pain level post surgery had been significantly improved. Thank you to everyone from Dr Alejandro Bentancourt office.

Dr is good but the staff not at all ive been calling and i event went to the door and call them and the lady was there just looking at the phone im been waiting 3 month for my medication and 2 appointments and nothing ....

Been trying to set my Dad's appointment forever nobody answers it's been a week even the hospital couldn't get a hold of them .can see staff inside trying to set appointment in person they don't even open the door. Ridiculous

We went in as a direct admit from PCP to Dr Six, and Dr Betatcourt took the case.. First surgery was March 2021. My husband had a herniated disk and a pinch nerve that was affecting his ability to work and tolerate standing up for a long period of time. He had this problem progress since the age of 18. The first surgery was at Valley Baptist, Robotic technique was used.. All in all. He came out walking like he had never had a pinched nerve or herniated disk. Was very very please with that.. NO therapy was done before discharge , no wound care instructions was given to us upon discharge from Valley Baptist. As soon as they heard we were being discharged, everything went out the window. My husband had weakness to legs that progressed after surgery and during therapy and call after call to the office and evaluation after evaluation from Therapy. We were told , "It was normal". We knew these falls were not normal. Every fall and every hit hurt me as his wife... I was never allowed to come in to the office " because of COVID rules". But other people were allowed in, I saw this all while I waited in the car. My husband is illiterate, cant read and does not understand medical term as well as I do, being that I have been in the medical field for 13 years. He was incapable of walking by the 3rd week after surgery. We went and ask PCP for advice and was directed to Dr whom did Surgery. When we asked for refill on pain med, we were asked for a DRUG Test and , diagnosed as Opiod Dependent. Took me 3 weeks and a messed up back AGAIN to see the PA. A STAT CT /MRI scan was ordered and it took them a long enough time to schedule it. I called numerous times and all the receptionist said , was ," there is no notes here". So no one worked on it. I called the Insurance, and no one had called either. I had to call myself to get it moving faster.. I called time and time again and when My husband went to follow up appt. The PA stated the STAFF failed to let him know my husband had fallen. My husband underwent another Surgery at HMC and.. The cut was poorly done. You can clearly tell the difference in the incision. I do not know what happened or if Dr just did not want to re do it cause of lack of wanting to keep us at patients or he was not in the right mind set. Rescheduled us 2 times. I know he had a family emergency, but no one told us till we were in Pre op. Lack of communication from Office as well. He could of transferred care to the correct Dr that was to do surgery, which was Dr Six. My question at this point is...Could it have been that he wanted to take accountability for money to his facility and take the case instead of leaving it to Dr Six which was the Dr whom was ordered to begin with??? We have been BEYOND neglected . Second surgery now and We are to the point where we are emotionally damaged. My husband went in walking and now walks like a 1 year old trying to not fall again.. He has fallen 2 times since the second surgery and they are YET to follow up with us. I am at the point to seek Legal Advise. Thank GOD my Company offers legal advice for My Insurance Coverage. Don’t know about the doctors but I can’t believe the Dr. keeps this office staff!! Rude and can’t even figure out how to send in a pre auth. Request to the insurance 2 weeks and still waiting. Had back surgery in 2016, 4 years later needed another surgery to correct dr Betancourt mistakes. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM !!!!

My mother started going to this doctor a couple months ago. First off they over schedule. My mom had a appointment at 2pm and we didn't get out till 6pm. Secondly the doctor is almost either never there or bever on time. Today my mom had a appointment at 3 but the doctor didn't get there till 5pm. The staff is really rude. Patients who come see Dr Betancourt are in dire straights. My brother has been a patient of his for many years. He has made himself available especially with emergencies. He's a little rough around the edges but he does his job and he does it well. I want someone who will take the responsibility for a difficult health problem, and deal with it. Unfortunately, even the best medicine and the best care are not enough to save everyone, though he tries. His days are long for sure and I wouldn't want to trade places with him. I respect his attention to his specialty and I respect him. We've had our share of medical setbacks but it comes with the territory. Best outcome to all of yours. My 9yr old son had a TBI, Dr Betancourt was the brain surgeon who God used to save my sons life. I am grateful and blessed to have him be my sons brain surgeon. Overall dont have the words to thank him for never giving up on my son.

My dad had surgery with Dr. Betancourt back in March. He explained the surgery to my mom and sister and after the the surgery, he came out and told my mom and sister that the surgery went well. Unfortunately, that was the last time we saw or heard from Dr. Betancourt. My dad was discharged from the hospital and still has his staples from the surgery in his head. My dad's hospice nurse is the one that has to remove them. I can't believe how unprofessional this dr has been. Not even checking up to see how my dad is doing. We definitely do not recommend him at all.

Dr. Betancourt is an excellent Dr I will say he is a miracle Dr I was about to become paralyzed of a broken spinal he subjected an operation with only a miracle of GOD would work and the miracle happen I’m walking

Very competitive and knowledgeable staff. The Dr takes time to explain and listen your questions and needs.

My husband had back surgery this past June. He is worse and Dr. Betancourt has taken no interest in trying to help him. They take forever to answer the phone when calling the office. And when you finally get thru you’re asked to please hold, again! I would definitely NOT recommend them.

It's so sad that his not very responsible. Had surgery never saw him before surgery nor after and bot even to be released from hospital. I go to his office and he doesn't show up.

This is the worst office I have ever dealt with. I waited 3 months for an appointment then I finally got one and they reschedule it for another month and was promised I was going to see the actual doctor. When that appointment came around I took a day off of work and the called me to say I wasn’t going to see the doctor and the next available appointment was another month and a half away!!! This doctor is horrible, gives the wrong information about his patients, doesn’t take the time to know who his patients are , does not see them in person after the surgery will call to ask how you are, terrible communication with the family of the patient. Worst doctor I have encountered ethically wise.

He will not show up to the office. You have to wait months for follow up appointments or tests. Unless you constantly call the office they will not call for your appointments. I’ve been waiting a month for a prescription for pain medication and i already ran out. All they told me is I need to wait.

Third time cancelling my husband's appointment. He can't manage to see the patients he already has and he cancelled an appointment because he's opening another clinic. Every time they rescheduled its another month wait.

Had Biopsy Done by Dr. Betancourt at MCAllen Medical Hospital very Good Neosergeon very confident in his work. Had no issues after Biopsy Thank God , And he checked up on me Next Day right away kept me well under observation ICU ,very satisfied.

My son whos 16 years old had a bullet go through his head and from this he even had a massive stroke to the right side of his brain. Dr Betacourt saved his life he is a great surgeon I will for ever be greatful. I wouldn't trust any other surgeon with my son. Now let me tell you what to expect at office visits. So Dr Betancourt is out of the office allot he is a neuro surgeon after all so he can't do your surgery and see his patients at the same time however he has a fantastic assist who really cares about his patients and who I trust just as much as Dr Betacourt together they make a great team. The trust I place in these men is not given lightly they EARNED IT. I can only speak from my experience. But I WILL WARN YOU IF YOU CALL THE OFFICE AND GET PLACED ON HOLD ITS 15 MINUTE WAIT 98 PERCENT OF THE TIME YOU CALL!. So if your looking for an office thats easily assesible even for just a general question honestly this isnt it but the staff is friendly and once u wait your turn you will get the help you need. Dr. Alejandro Betancourt is a very professional, outstanding, God sent Angel from above. This gentlemen is apart of my husband's (Lazarus) miracle. My husband was in a severe motorcycle accident, and basically declared an organ donor. We arrived at Valley Baptist and my husband beat all odds and outcomes. He was more dead than alive, with multiple traumas from head to toe. He wasn’t suppose to survive the first day, and he did. Once the doctor operated there were many outcomes if he woke up from his coma. But Dr. Betancourt did an excellent job on repairing his multiple skull and facial fractures. My husband is alive, walking, and speaking well. Many doctors played a role, but our main priority was his skull and thanks to Dr. Betancourt he made this process possible. We are eternally grateful that he was put in our path. Took 2 months to get an appointment with Dr. Betancourt. On 2/17/20 my husband had his appointment and I took off from my work to take him to the appointment. I was called the day before to remind us of his appointment and for him to be sure and bring his insurance cards. I told them we would be there. Appointment was at 3:30, got there at 3:15, stood in line with about 5 other people, and when my husband got to the window to tell the lady at the desk his name and date of birth, she casually said that the doctor wouldn't be there. Everyone in line was upset. My husband stated that they could have called to let us know that, and the lady was unconcerned. If he was the last doctor on this earth we would not go to him. Completely un ethical behavior, worst office staff in Harlingen!

You have to wait for hours at the office and most times he will not even show up. Been going through one test after the other and still don’t have diagnosis. He will not check in with you before or after procedures. You have to wait for months to get refill for medications or appointments for tests. Office staff usually don’t know what’s going on or when he’s showing up or if he even was in the office

I wouldn't trust him again. He did a craniotomy on my sister. The nurse called him that evening to report an observation which he just disregarded. Next day he did an emergency correction but I believe it was too late. I honestly believe if he had listened to the nurse, my sister would be alive today.

Great Doctor

Had a back surgery in 2012. Had a great experience and recovery. I was walking by the next day and able to continue my routine by the third week.

Dr. Betancourt is a surgeon I would recommend to any of my loved ones. Thank you, Dr. Betancourt for taking care of my husband. You are an awesome surgeon and a very caring person!

Incompetent office staff

Awful...very abrupt, rude, like u r not worthy of his time, etc.

Terrible management. Misinformation upon arrival and a long waiting period due to the doctor not even attending the office.

I went to see dr bentoncort cause of my back problems and all he did was just look at me and sent me on my merry oh way with out offering me any thing for pain but when i called on Monday all they would offer me is ibuprofen which is not gd for your liver my late wifes dr gave her ibuprofen and it ate her liver up and now im with out my wife cause she died from liver damage from taking ibuprofen so dr bentoncort is trying to push them off on me like he is trying to kill me and his physicians assist I went to see dr bentoncort cause of my back problems and all he did was just look at me and sent me on my merry oh way with out offering me any thing for pain but when i called on Monday all they would offer me is ibuprofen which is not gd … More

When my baby needed surgery because he has a shunt he helped us revise it and then again my grandma needed surgery he was once again available to help us He is an angel God bless his soul I don't mind waiting He is a good doctor

This Dr has been there for me when I couldn’t walk. I’m having pain again and he saw me within couple of days of my MRI was done. He was well recommended by a trusted person 10 yrs ago. Dr betancourt did surgery on me and now I am getting seizures and paralysis.I use to be able to walk 5 miles a day and I'd still have medication leftover.mow after he did surgery I was in recovery and had a surgery then i was paralyzed for days but the dr said it was me pretending and after that he dissmissed me from his care and said it was diabetic nerve damage.I've never had diabetes.this dr is a fraud and only does the surgery for insurance purposes.I needed another surgery on another 2 disc

He is an excellent doctor. He did my back surgery and all was well and I was so happy because I could feel my legs. A month later, I went into VBMC with respiratory distress due to my asthma, COPD, and frequent lung infections. On my second day there a nurse took me to the RR and on the way back, dropped me and now my back is messed up again. Doc will fix it again soon. He has s wonderful smile and great personality and Jesus guiding his hands always. I highly recommend him as a surgeon and as a friend I can trust. God bless him and his staff.
