Dr. Alan John Weiss

I am writing this as a real patient, and not someone who "called" Dr. Weiss asking for advice. Anyone who has met Dr. Weiss and knows him understands his advice is motivated from care and not money. He treated me the same day for a problem I have had that other doctors couldn't fix. He cares for people and not money. Trust that you would be privileged to have him as your doctor. He was funny and knowledgeable and explained the issue in detail. I was so impressed with not only the knowledge but also the care . I am considering doing other procedures and having Dr Weiss preform them. He’s someone you can depend on.

I wish I could write a review that was a good as some of the others. I was referred to Dr. Weiss by my insurance for a tummy tuck. I had previously seen a provider in a different state who told me that he needed me to lose at least 20 lbs. before I could have the surgery. I've lost those 20 lbs. but we have moved to MD so I wanted a consult with someone new. Dr. Weiss called me on receiving the referral, which was surprising. With very little preamble he asked my height and weight. I told him honestly what I weigh. He then said he couldn't help me and asked if I knew what my ideal weight was. When I mentioned that I would like to lose perhaps 20 more lbs., he told me that he was pretty sure that wasn't my ideal weight, and that I should look it up online. He did not, however, give me any parameters for what he felt someone my height should weigh, nor what his specific criteria are with regard to weight. His reasoning for focusing on my weight -which I completely understand - was that the risk for complications decreases significantly when a patient weighs less. I get that. Dr. Weiss repeated this multiple times, though he did couch it in terms of not wanting to risk his track record of good outcomes, rather than in terms of my (a potential patient) health. What I fail to understand, as both a patient and as someone married to a physician, is how he can properly assess a patient without an initial consultation. I also fail to understand why he chooses not to give specific resources for body weight nor can I understand why he has no set criteria. It isn't as though he told me, "Look, your ideal body weight is X, and that's based on Y studies. My policy is to not do this surgery for people who are more that Z pounds over their ideal body weight.". One would think that if weight is so important to the success of this kind of procedure, there would be some kind of rubric used to assess that, and that the doctor would have no problem pointing to this rubric and saying that I didn't meet his criteria. A vague assessment of weighing too much does nothing to help a patient understand what they need to do to meet his criteria and, frankly, only serves to alienate them. I know I'm overweight. Telling me so doesn't help me. What would help would be some kind of idea of how much more weight I would need to lose. I felt as though he simply wasn't interested in helping me and that my weight was just an easy excuse for him. FYI - I'm not just fat - I have significant diastasis recti due to multiple pregnancies that I need help with but the doctor didn't even address that in his phone call. Edited to add: Dr. Weiss’s response does not address the fact that he doesn’t give any definitive information other than “you should be closer to your ideal weight”. What does that mean? Give a potential patient a number! Also, he never said I should put off the surgery until I lost the weight, never said to call back when I’ve lost a certain number of pounds. He literally said, “I can’t help you.” I never claimed to be a patient - how could I when he never gave me the opportunity to be one? But I know that based on my phone call with him I don’t want to be one.

Trust that you would be privileged to have him as your doctor. I had breast surgery and he made sure I filled prescriptions and checked up with me every step of the way. He made sure he properly told me how to treat my stitches and pain afterwards. He has been available for me whenever I needed him any questions he answered timely, had I needed to come in he made sure to have a spot available. Of course a recurrence would mean more revenue for him, but that is not his goal. He cares to cure you and keep you healed. Not many like him around.

I had a very professional and pleasant experience with Dr. Weiss. I highly recommend his work, his attention to detail and technique is amazing. My initial consultation with Dr. Weiss was quick & straight forward, he explained the entire procedure which gave me a sense of comfort. The staff was amazing, pleasant, and helpful. The day of surgery things moved pretty quickly. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Weiss and am extremely satisfied with the results.

I was referred to Dr. Weiss on an urgent basis. He was able to see me within a day. My issue was addressed the next day. It was painless and efficient. Dr Weiss has great bed-side care. I would definitely recommend!

If you want to wait 5 weeks for a consultation and then get a rude phone call the day before where he doesn't know anything about you and treats you rudely only to cancel your appointment without giving you time to consider the price he dropped on you, go to this guy. In September I submitted an inquiry on the website for earlobe repair. The receptionist emailed me quickly and scheduled a consultation for about 5 weeks later (did not provide any information or pricing, just said the consultation was free). After waiting several weeks, the consultation appointment is scheduled for tomorrow and I was excited! However, Dr. Weiss just called me- he said he wanted to confirm my appointment but didn't even know what I was coming in for. I told him my earlobe consultation, he abruptly told me they usually just do the service right away. Without knowing any details about my situation (my earlobes are barely damaged, just small holes from having gauges), he abruptly told me the price of $600 for one ear and told me there's a 5% cash discount. I told him that my ear lobes are not very damaged, that I didn't think it would be much "reconstruction" so that's why I wanted a consultation. He told me the price again and said it's the minimum to open the operating room. I was stunned by his rudeness and upset that I waited over a month for a consultation from a surgeon who didn't read my appointment request and didn't respect me. He then said "I hope you can find someone who is board certified to help you" and hung up. I wish Dr. Weiss had been more sensitive and kind- and I wish this conversation had happened 5 weeks ago when I was inquiring about the procedure, not the day before my consultation. He's probably a good surgeon, but his telephone "bedside manner" for a potential new client who waited weeks for an appointment is very very bad. When I scheduled the consultation, a receptionist or someone should have called to get more information and discuss the consultation. Just now on the phone, Dr. Weiss's attitude made me feel like I was wasting his time, and like I'm the idiot for assuming my consultation was going to be a consultation. If he had called me, told me the price, and asked me to think about it- even that would have been understandable. But truly he was abrupt and rude, and it's only 9am. Find a surgeon who will respect your time and wants your business. Dr. Weiss is a phenomenal surgeon. My recovery only took 30 days with weekly follow up appointments. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Highly Recommend!

I had the dermabrasion procedure with Dr. Weiss last week and I am very pleased with the drastic improvement of my skin! He gave me a free consultation. He really took the time to explain the procedure as well as the risks and the expectations involved. He was great about answering any questions I had about the procedure and I loved that I could communicate directly with him through email and phone and not a receptionist! I have been trying to improve my skin for the last 10 years. I have had several treatments from other doctors/clinics to help improve the texture of my skin on my face from post acne marks and scarring including fractional lasers, chemical peels, and micro needling. I spent a lot of time and $$ without the drastic results I truly wanted. I am a student and shadowed Dr. Weiss this summer and he was the best teacher I've had. He showed me that plastic surgery isn't just about making cuts and improving someones appearance. He taught me to think of everything: The potential complications and how to prevent them, the risks for each individual patient, the timelines for each procedure and what to expect at home. Dr.Weiss truly cares for every patient. I've seen the thoughts and work that go into a patients care in his office, and future patients should know they're in excellent hands. If you have an appointment on a Friday, Dr.Weiss has already begun to think about your case on Monday so that nothing is missed specific to you. Another thing that I've found to be unique to Dr.Weiss is that he educates his patients; As a patient before your procedure you will know all the details surrounding it and any questions you may have Dr.Weiss will answer throughly so you feel as comfortable as possible. Dr. Alan performed my carpal tunnel surgery on both hands way back in 2008. Well, here we are all these years later and new issues have come up. I am working with several specialists and just had a NCS and EMG done showing rare findings on the carpal tunnel. The surgery he performed was invented BY HIM and it had just come out. The EMG I had done show the median nerve is still unaffected since the surgery! It was a miracle what he did to me. I was instantly pain-free (aside from the surgical pain) and begged to have the second one done ASAP. 2 months later, he obliged and I was ecstatic. I’ve been symptom free all this time and barely a scar to prove it even happened. Miracle worker! I cannot thank him enough. About two years ago, I had bags under my eyes, I always looked tired and older. I had never, up to that point had surgery. Overall, Dr. Alan Weiss is a PHENOMEMAL doctor. He will tell you how it is and educate you through your procedure. My breast reduction from consult to now (8 weeks post op) has been an absolute breeze. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

A horrible scar from a belly button piercing was made worse by my two previous surgeons. Dr. Weiss thought outside of the box, and used his years of experience to eliminate my huge scar and give me results that far surpass what I had imagined. My husband is a big fan of Dr. Weiss, sees him all the time and is always happy with his work! He is efficient and no-nonsense. He also took out my daughter's stitches when she was 5 without a problem. I recommend him for all your plastic surgery needs!

I called another practice to inquire about having a keloid removed from my ear. They quoted me $2500 out of pocket and approximately $7000 to be billed to my insurance - sight unseen, and they said that's the standard cost. The keloid was the size of a pea. (Notice the "was"? Keep reading) I called Dr. Weiss for a second opinion. He informed me he would bill my insurance and based on my deductible, I may have a small out of pocket cost. He got me in the next day. Very minimal pain and clear aftercare instructions. My ear healed beautifully and I "saved" $9000. Dr. Weiss was thorough, kind, professional and has great bedside manner. He checked on me over the following week to see how I was healing. Stitches were removed the next week and he gave additional aftercare instructions. He is great! Dr. Weiss performed a bilateral earlobe repair and piercing. Both procedures were seamless I was in and out. Following his aftercare instructions I healed beautifully. My scar isn't noticeable at all. From consult to scheduling he was professional, flexible and prompt. Definitely recommend him for your cosmetic needs!

Dr Weiss is quirky but a damn good surgeon. My best friend used him and he was my second opinion dr. I am glad I went to him for a second opinion! Now I am healing wonderfully :)

I have been a patient of Doctor Weiss for more than 16 years. I am a full-time boat captain in the Caribbean, and I must take very good care of my skin. Doctor Weiss is the only person that I trust. I traveled back from Puerto Rico last December when I found a mole near my right shoulder. It was inching and I was very worried due to my continuing exposure to the sun. I recently visited Dr. Alan Weiss to get a mole removed. He explained to me the reason it needed to be removed and he made me feel confident and comfortable throughout the process. He performed a spectacular surgery to remove it. I need to say I was a bit scared but, his enthusiastic energy was contagious and his medical knowledge calmed my nerves. A "plastic surgeon" who doesn't know that weight can come not only from fat, but from muscles, and therefore with the same weight person would not be obese, in my opinion, is not a good doctor. i defitnitely won't ever have any business with such rude, unknowelegeable person.

I recently visited Dr. Alan Weiss to get a mole removed. He explained to me the reason it needed to be removed and he made me feel confident and comfortable throughout the process. He performed a spectacular surgery to remove it. I need to say I was a bit scared but, his enthusiastic energy was contagious and his medical knowledge calmed my nerves. Now I'm on my way to recovery with no signs of any cancerous mole on my body. I will definitely go back to him if I need anything else done.

From the moment I met Dr. Weiss I knew he was focused and caring. He looked at me as person and then considered my problem. He was all about safety and explaining CAREFULLY the risks of the procedure and how he would try to avoid any problems / complications at all costs. He sent me for studies to help him prepare for the surgery, and fought as a strong PATIENT ADVOCATE for the approval of my procedure by my insurance company. Dr. Weiss proformed an abdominaplasty on me after I had recently lost a LRG amount of weight. He was able to get the surgery completely covered by my insurance plan. I had very little out of pocket cost for the procedure. Dr. Weiss is BRILLIANT. Although his bedside manner maybe undesired, best only described as; if you've ever seen the show "House",he's the exact copy of Hugh Laurie's character (House), if you haven't, look it up. Dr. Weiss is that guy & the only surgeon I would recommend.

At the age of 38, I found myself to be a mother of two beautiful girls and a non-active life, weighing over 300lbs and zero self-confidence. I had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery in August of 2015 to help lose weight to be around for my children and their children. After two years and 169 pounds gone forever, I was left with a mangled, ugly looking body with loose skin in the tummy area. It was gross and sometimes having this hanging loose skin was mentally worse than being fat and overweight. I started to look for plastic surgeons who were recommended from someone or another. I went to several who offered “free consultations” and I left many times with ink drawn on me and feeling kind of bad for myself because the doctor would make comments about the fat and weight of this loose, hanging, ugly skin. It was horrible. These doctors would also give me the costs of their procedures, even after I asked about help getting the procedure covered through insurance because of side effects and other issues caused by the loose skin. They did not want to deal with insurance. I often left without hope, because I simply knew I could not afford their services. One day, I changed my route driving to work and rode past the office of Doctor Alan Weiss in Glen Burnie, MD. I saw his sign hanging, advertising his cosmetic procedures he could perform. I continued to ride past his office for weeks until I got up the nerve to call for yet another “free consultation”. I must be honest, I was expecting another let down and I am so thankful that I did make the call and visit with Dr. Weiss! Not once was there a discussion of his pricing for the procedure. Dr. Weiss took the time to listen to my story and history and I left the appointment feeling a bit optimistic because Dr. Weiss and his office assistant Anna, were contacting my insurance and working with them to get the procedure covered. After a few hiccups and supplying more info to the insurance company, the abdominoplasty was covered by my insurance and I was called by Dr. Weiss himself to schedule my surgery. Dr. Weiss again, took the time to explain every step of the procedure to me and my husband and what to expect during recovery. Surgery was May 31, 2017 and when this day finally came, I was not the least be worried or scared, simply because I knew what to expect thanks to Dr. Weiss’s thorough explanations and straight to the point answers. Everything Dr. Weiss mentioned to me was dead on. After surgery, I received several calls from Dr. Weiss and Anna, both, checking on me and asking how I was doing. During recovery, I had a problem with a cream causing extremely itchy, contact burns on my skin. A simple call to Dr. Weiss and I had a prescription called in for me, as he knew exactly what the problem was. Though I am still very in the recovery period, I could not be more pleased with my results! It is only up from here and I have Dr. Weiss to thank for getting my self-confidence, and pre-mom body back! Dr. Weiss is simply THE BEST! I was looking for Botox in Maryland with a doctor who was an expert at their craft, but without charging extra for water fountains and New Age music in the waiting room. I have been using Botox for the last three years in other countries and Dr. Weiss is, by far, the most exact and precise. He uses your own face as his map, not a carbon placement. I would recommend Dr. Weiss to any person looking for comfort and precision in their plastic surgeon journey.

Dr. Weiss is the best! He has successfully removed multiple skin cancers in the past and recently removed a basil cell carcinoma and a squamous cell carcinoma in Sept. 2016. The BCC was near my eye and despite my history, I was very nervous,. Dr. Weiss was confident he could do it. He quickly scheduled the procedure and removed the cancer within a s week at BWMC. He did it at the hospital with a instant pathology reading of the removed tissue to make sure he got it all the first time, and he did! I recommend Dr. Weiss to anyone that has a suspicious spot on their body that will not heal and meets any of the criteria for skin cancer. Due to a combination of genetics and weight loss, my breast were sagging and completely uneven. Dr. Weiss performed a lift and reduction 2 weeks ago. He did an amazing job! I feel much better, hardly any pain involved, and have had excellent post-morning care. Dr. Weiss is an artist with what he can do, and takes time to make an individualized plan with each patient. I've now had two separate surgeries performed by Dr. Weiss, and I couldn't be happier.

Let me start by saying when I went to Dr. Weiss for my consultation I was very nervous and I had a lot of questions and I wasent 100% sure about my decision to have or not to have my procedure. When I left his office I was ready to schedule the appointment. Dr. Weiss is very straight forward, he explains every aspect of the procedure, what to expect, the cost, how you feel etc. He is very passionate about his work and you can tell my his level of "caring" that he shows you.

Dr. Weiss has a no-nonsense bedside manner, though I definitely found improvement the more we spoke. As far as my results with Botox injections, absolutely awesome! Dr. Weiss did a perfect job, as far as I'm concerned. The results were even better than we discussed! He was professional and knew EXACTLY what he needed to do!

The beginning of November I was having a few medical conditions. I Looked on line for a doctor and took a chance . I called that morning Samantha made me an appointment for the next morning at 9 AM. So I got there pretty early and walked and to check in .there was Dr. Weiss .He said Can I help you I told him I had an app. He Began to give me all my paper work as I was filling it out HE STARTED TALKING TO ME . That meant more to me then you will ever know. Most doc. do really want to ,make conversations it usually about the money.. Doc. Weiss then went in to his exam room had Samantha ( his staff ) and my self come in.. He went through my med. charts asked me a lot of questions and answered all my questions .He explained everything he was doing at the time of exam and took my photos .had me cover up and also had his staff in the room as well ,That was very comforting After everything was said and done he got right on the phone and got procedure on the ball with insurance ( HE AND SAMANTHA WENT WAY AND ABOVE TO GET EVERYTHING DONE) . He had my procedure sch. with in 2 weeks . I arrived to the hospital he came in explained his self again and what to expect he was 100 % right about everything. Dr. Alan Weiss works miracles. After having a brain tumor removed last July (tumor made me gain 260 lbs) I lost 240 lbs but my body looked like a wrinkled Sharpei puppy. I have been a patient of Dr. Alan Weiss for the last 10 years. I am a sailing coach and a boat Captain, so I always worry about sink cancer. The first time I had a growth on my nose, it was a mole and not much of a beauty mark. Dr. Weiss took care of all my concerns before and after the procedure. His professionalism and experience left my face perfect. You cannot see a scare, and could not be happier with the results. Last week, I was a nervous mess. Working as a full time charter Captain, in Annapolis and the Caribbean, I worried about this hard growth that was bigger than a dime that appeared under my skin on my forearm, and another on my head, and yet another in my face. They were painful and I was panicking because the mark on my arm was itchy and grew in less than 3 weeks. So I made an appointment with Dr. Weiss’s friendly staff. They scheduled a consultation immediately. Dr. Weiss’s personal care, and the sailboat decorations in his office made me feel relaxed and secure. After seeing another surgeon for an identical procedure, I was left with horrible scars on my body and I have been asked numerous times "WHAT HAPPENED!?!" about the one that apparently looks like someone burned the back of my neck. Dr. Weiss was able to remove 5 moles from my face and with his knowledge of suture styles and incisions angles, no one has ever commented on the practically invisible scars. When someone asks about the "burn" on my neck, I refer them to my face. Using a mirror, (since even I have forgotten where they are) I must look very closely to point them out while telling others that choosing the right surgeon the first time would have saved me a lot of trouble. I have since referred ALL of my friends and family to him if they need ANY type of plastic surgery. I wish I were able to show picture proof with this review of the difference a surgeon can make. Dr. Weiss treated a smashed ring finger. Fortunately, it wasn't broken, but it was quite swollen and stiff. He knew exactly how to approach the injury so that I got full range of motion back and can once again wear a ring on that finger. I also trust him to treat my family members.
